Food poisoning at 16 weeks will this hurt my harm my unborn baby?

I think I may have food poisoning, I'm very careful about what I eat but eat per packaged sandwiches salads etc during lunchtime at work. Today I ate: porridge in the morning, a washed apple, chocolates, m&s salad, vege sushi (rice with cucumber etc), crisps, pot noodle, olives, washed strawberries (they were reduced and just in date 1st march when I ate them).

I woke at midnight to cramping and feeling sick, and since 2am have actually vomited.

I called nhs direct and they said food poisoning couldn't harm the baby but the nhs website said it could, so feeling confused, upset and very unwell.

Just to add I have had very bad morning sickness but this has subsided and almost disappeared over the last couple weeks, so I doubt it's that.

I'm guessing that if you had a type of food poisoning that was potentially harmful you'd be chained to the toilet rather than on the phone to NHS Direct, a bit of a dodgy tummy is probably fine. There are also loads of sickness bugs doing the rounds so it may not be something you ate at all.

Make sure you keep yourself hydrated and I hope it passes quickly.

I was told by NHS Direct that proper food poisoning is rare, and results in feeling really terrible for around two weeks. If you're sick for 24hrs or so it's more than likely just a vomiting bug (lots still around). It's horrible but nothing to worry about baby-wise. If it's going on longer than a couple of days then ring doctor.

Hope you feel better soon.

I can't really see from your list any food that would cause good positioning? What was in the M&S salad?

I think it's more likely to be a bug. Either way, it will settle. The main thing is you need to stay hydrated. If you struggle with drinks, try ice lollies (they are gentler on the stomach). Hope you feel better soon.

Stopped throwing up so you were all right not food poisioung thank god. Had it once and was vomitting every 15-45 mins for 48 hrs & ill for 2 weeks after. Was petrified to get that while pregnant. Hopefully was just a bug thank you all.

Sounds like you are fine- I think you would only have to worry about baby if you were severely dehydrated. Remember that the immune system puts baby first so we are more likely to get ill (or iller than we would be otherwise) compared with not being pg.
