Hi lady's! I'm 24 weeks pregnant with 3rd this pregnancy has been somewhat difficult! I've been suffering with low bp and headaches (bp was 63/34 at 1 point!) alot work referred me to occupational health because they're calling me in for 4 absences relating to pregnancy my question is my job can't offer any alternative role for next few weeks that can help with my problems so can occupational health force me stop work now for health n safety of me, baby and patients?!!

They can certainly offer you an alternative, and if they can't do that and you are unfit for work purely because of your pregnancy, you can be signed off until 36 weeks by your GP. This will attract whatever pay rate your contract specifies for sickness absence or SSP.

If it is considered that the work environment or conditions are hazardous to you because of your pregnancy and that can't be avoided, then you can be suspended on full pay until the baby is born.

Neither of these measures should be recorded under usual sickness tallies.

Why are they calling you in for the 4 absences? They can't take action if they are pregnancy related, except to try and help you avoid illness because of work.

The manager seems 2 have forgot 2 tell hr they're pregnancy related and so automatically triggered a meeting. My union r fuming with them, had no risk assesment done at all!! Working on a very hot ward with bright lights n pregnant patients and newborns (maternity ward!!- so yes they should know better!) with low bp is not ideal :0/

Erm yes I was going to say that you can't be called up on any pregnancy related illness.
I work on a busy medical ward and I've negotiated doing shorter days, rather than my usual 12 hours shifts. I also have been put on ''supernumerary'' shifts where I go in but not counted in staff numbers, or I do some teaching sessions with new starters, or I do general cleaning/tidying of the ward sorting out our policy and protocol folders.
So yes your work place could find some other use for you even if its just answering the telephone!

If they can offer that I'd be more than happy :0) it's not that I'm not happy 2 do job I do more that if I do get dizzy I can't just walk out and leave the patient!! Occupational health are pushing for risk assesment to be done urgently so hopefully will be done before I actually go on Maty leave!!
