Asthma during pregnancy?

Has anyone found that their asthma got worse (or maybe better?!)? I'm 12 wks and the last few weeks have been really difficult, I find myself waking up in the middle of the night needing a puff on the blue inhaler, which never happened before. Previously I only needed to use the purple Seretide once in the morning and night.

I know it's a difficult time of year with the cold and damp, but would be interested to here if anyone else has any experienced symptoms....

Dc1 much worse. Went from minimal use when I had a cold to needed all the time. Gp switched me to symbicort which was fantastic, used up to 12 times a day as reliever and preventer.

This pg, used my inhaler once!!! Chest feels fantastic. Bizarre.

Have to say things got worse as time went on with pg for dc1 so maybe see our gp sooner rather than later.

This pregnancy my asthma got really bad at around 16 weeks so along with my steroids they changed my inhaler to symbicort, all good now tho 28 weeks

I had a couple of weeks in the autumn when I was a bit chesty (prob around 16 weeks) and needed both reliever and preventer quite a bit. Since then chest has cleared and I have not had a puff of either for months!! Midwife did impress upon me that if I did have a tight chest not to hold back as much better for the baby that I was getting plenty of air in instead of worrying about the drugs.

With DC1 my asthma vanished for the whole 9 months! I went from using my inhaler half a dozen times a day to nil. Was quite disappointed when it came back. This pregnancy my asthma is just the same as normal.

Shortness of breath is common in pregnancy, even early on, so maybe you're suffering with a normal pregnancy symptom made worse because you're asthmatic.

I've never had asthma. But developed a terrible persistent night time cough while pregnant. I had a mc and it improved slightly. Pregnant again and it came back with a vengeance. So bad it was making me vomit. Diagnosed with asthma. Treated with reasonable success. Got on to operating table for my elcs coughing my guts up. Cough disappeared entirely as soon as baby was delivered.

Thanks so much for the feedback ladies! I'm going to see the GP this week... Maybe a change of meds is the right way forward.

my hayfever (and with it allergic asthma) went into overdrive when pregnant.
I was prescribed a steroid nasal spray in addition to the reliever inhaler which made a real difference. had an argument with the pharmacist though who didn't want to give the spray to me. he had to look into this big blue book and call the gp before reluctantly handing it over bastard
