TMI alert - should I be worried by blood when having a (large) poo?

Sorry if tmi, I'm in my first trimester and have suffered constipation. When I finally poo (and they are usually larger than usual!) I've had a couple of instances where there has been a little bit of blood. At first I thought it was vaginal bleeding but it's definitely the other! I haven't really been worried about it as its not painful and theres no after effects - but should I be? Anyone else had this?

Fresh red blood? Nothing to worry about.

Very dark/ black? Get to a Dr quick smart.

I've had this but vaginal too, I've been checked out and they've done swabs etc, I find its happening each time now but doctors don't seem concerned as scans look fine. If not vaginal maybe mention it to midwife to be on the safe side.

In all likelihood it will be that there are tiny tears in your bum caused by the constipation that bleed when you poo. Hence the fresh blood being nothing to be overly concerned about.

There's no harm at all in mentioning it at your next appointment but I really would not book an appointment solely to discuss the blood.

How about the fact you have piles and maybe new a cream?

Trazzletoes · 26/02/2013 07:36

But you know if you have piles - you can feel it. The OP hasn't mentioned that at all. And you can get cream from a pharmacy.

As I said, IMO it's worth mentioning at the next appointment but I wouldn't be overly concerned in the meantime.

Of course it's up to the OP what she wants to do and how concerned she is. I will also apologise now for my grumpiness - sleep deprived right now.
