Newborn clothes - how many of each?

I know what to get, but am unsure of exactly how many of each thing to get.

We don't have a tumble drier and live in north of Scotland so the outside drying weather isn't always fab, if that makes any difference.

Help!

More than any of the magazines tell you to get!
You certainly need to be in double figures with your vests and sleepsuits, that's for sure.

Not sure why I'm so hesitant to actually pick a number out of thin air!

FWIW, this time I have 5 vests and 3 sleepsuits in my hospital bag, and a LOT more than that in the wardrobe, but we have hand-me-downs that we haven't had to buy.

It's hard to know what an ideal figure is huh?

I have 18 vests, I know that much as got a bagful given me, I should imagine that would be enough?!

Yeah that sounds plently foof although it is easy to go.over board i have about 25-30 of both vests and sleepsuits Blush

cakesonatrain · 25/02/2013 16:26

Yeah, you'll be ok with 18.

OooShiney · 25/02/2013 16:27

Umm, I have about 30 vests/sleep suits. These are from when I had DD, I have about 15 of each in boy tones.

DD was queen of poospolsions and had regular changes.

Don't get too much newborn sized stuff as you might have a big baby and they might not even fit into it and go straight into 0-3 or bigger! You can always buy new stuff once the baby's born.

FoofFighter · 25/02/2013 17:01

I never buy newborn stuff, false economy, the baby doesn't care if the 0-3 size legs are a bit long, not as if they are walking in them :) The other two went straight into 0-3 but then that was all you could really get way back then Blush unless they were premature.

Most of my newborn stuff went unworn. We did so much skin to skin in the first weeks that he only wore his nappy and a blanket most of the time. Other than that, onesies were almost all he wore for almost a year! He was a fast grower and outgrew sizes after a couple of weeks in them. I'm gad I got unisex items to begin with as my second baby can were them regardless of whether it's a boy or girl. Second baby coming in 2 months! I'll only get a few "special" items this time as I still have so much stuff. M&S do great multipacks for sleepsuits etc.. They are really soft snd comfy for baby.

cakesonatrain · 25/02/2013 17:51

We got a lot of wear out of 'up to 1 month' size with DS. I don't think we bought any 'newborn' sized stuff actually, as neither of our families have small babies!

gardenpixie32 · 25/02/2013 18:55

I have 14 vests in each size and 14 sleepsuits in each size. I have twins and that is plenty for both babies. They aren't sicky babies so we go through one vest and one sleepsuit each per day.

Elkieb · 25/02/2013 19:00

I had 21 vests in each size (3 packs of 7) and 15 babygros (5 packs of 3). It seemed about right- though I went through a lot of vests. The best tip is that you can take the vests off downward when a poonami happens Shock!

FoofFighter · 25/02/2013 19:34

ooh poonami Grin
