Should I call someone? No movement 19 weeks...

I haven't felt any movement yet and I am 19 weeks tomorrow and this is my 3rd baby.

I have had 2 MC before at 9 and 12 weeks.

I am starting to get worried.

I've tried calling my community midwife but no answer. I could speak to the duty GP? Or am I being silly and should just wait?

I would call and call again. Do the community midwives have a pager service you can get a call back on? I would insist on an appointment, you can't go on like this. When is your 20 week scan booked for?

Thanks
GlaikitFizzog · 25/02/2013 10:15

If you aren't getting a response from the MW (which is poor, do they not have a community desk to take messages?) I would call your GP or maternity ward at the hospital. I think at 19w you are to far along for EPU.

weakestlink · 25/02/2013 10:17

No pager just an office which doesn't appear to have an answer phone (just rings and rings).

Shall call GP then and ask opinion...

There should be some info on your hospital notes about who to call/where to go if you're worried or have a problem. There will be a monitoring and assessment unit at the hospital - I would give them a ring or just go along.

Best of luck - it's probably something to do with the way your placenta is lying, but that gnawing worry is awful.

weakestlink · 25/02/2013 10:22

My scan is next Wednesday....

I have asked for duty GP to ring me for their advice.
It's not a GP I like/trust really (bad reputation) but better than nothing.

Have worked myself up now and am very upset. Hopefully she will ring soon!

weak I am sure christina is right and that it is the way your placenta is lying, but you deserve an answer. If your GP fobs you off I would go to labour ward. I am amazed that there is no answer service for your MW. Terrible.

SpaghettiBologneighs · 25/02/2013 10:41

EPU is usually up to 20 weeks, so I would contact them.

I felt no movements till about 20-21 weeks this time (DC2). Lo and behold, anterior placenta!

weakestlink · 25/02/2013 10:59

Yes am hopeful it's just the placenta cushioning everything.

We don't have an EPU you can contact directly (know this from previous MCs) so have to wait for GP to call...

Have you heard from the GP yet, weakestlink?

weakestlink · 25/02/2013 19:35

Hi spaghetti the GP didn't ring back :(
So eventually I got fed up and rang the labour ward.
Spoke to a midwife (who didn't mind me calling at all) and she said not to worry too much. She said nothing is 100% but it is not unusual not to feel anything yet.
I am still going to try and speak to my own midwife (who has clinic tomo but I could not make an appt as fully booked) to see if she will squeeze me in and listen for heartbeat.
Wish I had one of those bloody heartbeat listener things now but thought it was waste of money!

That's rubbish! Good idea to speak to your own mw tomorrow, let us know how you get on x

weakestlink · 25/02/2013 19:40

Yes she is a particularly rubbish GP that one Angry !

Will report back tomo.

I didn't feel my 3rd and 4th babies until later, probably something to do with lax abs!!!

Have you tried laying on your front with a very full bladder?

scarlettsmummy2 · 25/02/2013 19:47

I didn't feel my second baby until about 21 weeks, placenta was at the front and I am quite tall.

Snazzynewyear · 25/02/2013 19:48

I would actually go down to the clinic either before its start time or at the end and ask to be seen. They're less likely to turn you down if you're in front of them. Hope you get some reassurance.

xigris · 25/02/2013 19:50

I didn't feel my third until I was about 21 weeks - I had an anterior placenta which meant it was cushioning any movements from the baby. I also think that because I was so busy chasing around after DS1&2 I didn't register any moments. DS3 is now 8 weeks old and completely fine. I do think it's poor that your midwife hasn't called back though, I'd definitely moan about that one. You can just turn up on the labour ward and ask them to listen to the baby's heartbeat to out your mind at rest. Best of luck!

TERRICOVERLEYDoSAC · 25/02/2013 20:26

Sure everything will be fine, but I would go down too. Better to check out and be reassured, than (and this is a very remote possibility) miss something you kick yourself for later.

Very best wishes

weakestlink · 26/02/2013 09:26

A friend has lent me a heartbeat listener and found it straight away so all is well :) Spoke to midwife and will see her next week after my scan :)
Thanks everyone for your advice. Now just waiting for doctor to call me back about my vitamin B12 issues but that's another thread!!
