Really down about weight gain - can I change it?

I am 6mths pregnant with DC2. With DS1 I did gain quite a bit and was on steroids for quite a while which didn't help. I ended up needing to lose about 3 stone, of which I lost 2 stone before falling pregnant with DC2.
Whilst trying for DC2 we had 3 mcs and lots of family trauma which has continued throughout pregnancy. I suppose if I am honest I did notice the weight gain but with working full time, trying to support my family through an awful time and looking after DS1 (just turned 2) Ikept pushing it to the back of my mind.
Today I took DS1 swimming and whilst getting changed after I caught a glimpse of myself and I look bloody awful - no pregnancy glow just grossly overweight and disgusting. Was a real wake up call and I feel terrible.
Has anyone else been in this position and if so can you pull it back? If I really focus on healthy eating can I stop the weight gain? Can you lose a bit of weight in the last few months successfully without putting baby at risk?

I put on loads of weight both times I was pregnant. I couldn't fit in my maternity jeans-after I gave birth...

I did t lose any weight between my babies because I was too busy but after my second I did. Not till she was over one though. Have you any of those aqua aerobics classes where you live?

There are other ways if making yourself feel better when you are pregnant. Accessories, nice shoes, haircut etc. Don't worry about losing weight afterwards until afterwards. You are being too hard on yourself.

Don't know about you but the thing I felt so bad about with pregnancy weight gain was it being out of my control. Knowing I could vow to eat nothing but lettuce tomorrow and feel better just taking control a bit.
You know you have to eat to grow the baby. It's tough but you just have to keep your eye on trying really hard after the baby. And yes, just eat healthily anyway to limit the gain to normal baby gain. But healthily rather than dieting.

Good luck.

I'm newly pregnant with DC2. I put on an obscene amount of weight with DS1, and am determined not to do the same this time! I am already starving hungry constantly (same as I was last time) - last time I gained nearly 5st total Blush

I've been researching a lot into what will be healthy and what won't be to try and minimise my weight gain. I'm starting walking everywhere instead of driving / getting the bus. I'm taking DS to the park or nature reserves at least once a week so long as its not raining too heavily - he's happy in puddle suit and wellies, and it's extra exercise for me. I'm also doing a prenatal Pilates DVD most days.

I'm struggling with morning sickness a bit so healthy eating is suffering but I'm not allowing myself take away more than once a fortnight (usually have it weekly) and planning to have 1/2 my plate as fruit or veg once the ms calms down - at the moment I'm just eating whatever keeps the nausea at bay!!

I don't think you can limit what you are eating while pregnant but you can certainly make better food choices and exercise more no matter what stage you are at. Good luck with it :)

I feel your pain. I put on 5 stone with my first pregnancy. Part of that was down to pre-eclampsia meaning I retained a lots of water but part of it was to do with eating what I wanted when I wanted. Thankfully I lost it all, plus an extra stone, within 9 months of DC1's birth. I ate sensibly, pushed the pram at least 5km a day and breastfed. Ta da! The weight fell off.

With DC2 I ate sensible throughout pregnancy and tried to exercise. But I still gained 3 stone. Less that with DC1 but much more than average.

I am now 28 weeks with DC3 and I started this pregnancy with my lowest ever BMI (19.5). I have put on 2stone 2lbs already and I am gutted. I am starving all the time and although I am trying to eat sensibly its not really working. I think some of us are just destined to be fat pregnant women!

Do you know what - going into sporty areas is what does it! I was feeling quite good about myself until I set foot in the gym last week and left feeling like a blimp and was in a bad mood about it for days. We are meant to look different at the moment and its okay. None of those skinnies are growing a brand new human being!

Have you spoken to your MW? A few people I know of have been told that they can do slimming world when pg (if BMI is v high) and they have finished the pg lighter than when they started it!

With DC1 I did put on a lot of weight towards the end, it didn't help that I went very very overdue and it was a hot summer so I put on a lot of weight through being too hot to move, water retention and icecream. I started to lose the weight after she was born but she was in NICU for a while and we ate really very badly, hand to mouth whatever takeaway we could get we ate.

Then eventually shed all the baby weight and a few extra pounds before we TTC'd this baby (I'm 25weeks pg) but I have been so ill with sickness, exhaustion and uterine pain that I haven't been exercising and I have been eating a lot of carbs as thats the only thing which helps. I find some days I am bloated on top of bump and those are the days when I haven't drunk enough.

However. I am determined to change the way I eat after baby is born and I have a freezer so will batch cook decent healthy meals, I currently have a desk job (FT) so not terribly active.

I am a bit Sad at the way that my siblings stay willowish and fit when they have been pg, but MW was very clear that everyone is different, that staying active is more important than watching the scales. So I would say eat healthily and have healthy snacks but don;t try to deny snacks are important. Do you eat a good breakfast?

I dont think you should be so hard on yourself - it does not sound like you are that massive! I would just focus on keeping healthy - doing some light exercise (I love ante natal pilates and swimming) and eating healthily but often as you need to. Be kind to yourself - so what if you are a bit porky -you can worry about losing weight afterwards.
