Spd agony

Don't know whether anyone will be able to offer any advice but I feel I've done myself an injury. Basically, after advice from a physio had been taking great care to avoid movement that worsens my spd, and symptoms had dramatically eased. But today my 2.5 yo dd ran away from me towards a busy road and I had to run to stop her. I felt a crunching sensation between my legs, as i ran, and have gone from reasonably good mobility to hardly being able to walk. Is there anything I can do? I am 35 weeks and have a 4 and 2 yo who I need to look after, no family or support nearby. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear you are in pain. I can't offer much advice except based on suggestions from MN members, I went to see an osteopath and it really helped me. Could this be something you could consider?

Take a strong painkiller and use a hot water bottle. I feel your pain. Maybe you could hire/borrow a wheelchair to get around faster or at all. Other than that I can't really give any advice as I am suffering from this as well and nothing has worked for me so far. Good luck!

Could consider osteopath if not too expensive...feeling v sorry for myself!

DH bought me a walking stick today, and it has been a huge huge help. Ok so it isn't glamorous and I feel like an old granny, but it does help me walk without an exaggerated limp, which helps keep everything in line and reduces the pain considerably. Get one if you haven't already.

If you go to your local physio department they should lend you crutches for free. I borrowed a pair. My DH now calls me a geriatric. Grin

I paid £30 for one session, they have a reduced price for those not working.

You may find it settles again quite quickly. I had got my spd to a pretty manageable level and then re-aggravated it when I had a fall. Had about 5 days of it being quite sore before it settled back down again.

Ice, warm bath, paracetamol all helped in short term...

Have you got a support band for your hips? If not try and get a dressing gown cord/belt/scarf and tie it tight around your pelvic bone and under your bump.

washngo · 24/02/2013 07:53

Thank you. Have a support belt but am mainly unable to move at the moment so just resting.
Citydweller - I'm hoping it will settle again but don't know what I'll do with the children for 5 days so hoping it won't take that long! I'm just shocked at the impact a relatively small movement could have and am worried this problem won't go away after birth.
