Dutailier glide chairs

My lovely hubby is buying me a chair for the nursery, we have looked at the dutailier that they sell in mothercare. Is it any good, or is there an alternative which is better. Any advice would be great, thanks...

It's fantastic. I used the dutaillier chair through both pgs & for feeding & now use it for reading bedtime stories or cuddling sick dc. They are so soothing and there are no worries about little fingers getting stuck under rockers. Do get the footrest to go with it. I wish I had.

carwillin · 01/05/2006 18:26

Totally agree with sansouci. Still use mine for stories etc. after 2 years and I'm definitely using it for the next one, feeding and soothing is excellent.

Not sure about the footrest though, I prefered a box to put my feet on for feeding and the footrest got relegated to the loft after a couple of weeks - although great through pregnancy.

Thanks for your replies.

The chairs sound wonderful and I hadn't thought about little fingers getting trapped in them so thats a very good point!

Can't wait to get one now, we will get it ordered this week!

Get one! I bought a cheaper version (Hauck maybe?) as I though Dutalier were expensive. Although it's fine and I still use it (dd2 is 13mths), I do sometimes wish I'd bought the Dutalier as it is more comfortable. More padding and I think the back is higher (I'm tall, so notice things like this!).

Passionflower · 02/05/2006 18:20

I love mine to bits! Deffo get one.

BigHotMama · 02/05/2006 18:40

Bobley, you must have been reading my mind as I was about to start new thread asking same thing. I think they look heavenly but bit pricey, Jojo mamn bebe do one for around £250 chair and stool (I think) so bit cheaper than the dutaillier. Its something that will last long and can be used for lots of things. I've put in my order with DH lol.

Bobley · 02/05/2006 19:52

I have just found a Dutailier chair and stool (exactly like the ones in mothercare) for £100 cheaper!

Are they the same as they have in mothercare's breastfeeding rooms, does anyone know? If so, Bobley, they are blooming marvelous and I am going to order dh to get me one before we have any more kids! Eternity ring? Nah! I want a glider chair and stool! Grin

BonyM · 02/05/2006 21:06

Yes - same as the ones in Mothercare (that's how I know they're better than mine!).

Bobley - be careful with twoleftfeet. I know a few people on here have had problems with them.

Bobley · 02/05/2006 21:07

I haven't ever been in the breastfeeding rooms (yet!)

They are the same as the ones they have on the shop floor in Mothercare though...

Ooh good luck Bobley! The BF room in mothercare (well the one I went to) had reeeeeally nice chairs (and whale music, which I wasn't so keen on). The rocking motion was fab. The room was empty, so dh took another chair and nearly fell asleep he was that comfy lol! Only problem with them that I can see is the arms are a little high, so when the baby is a reasonable age they get in the way (dh says that's when HE gets to take over the chair to watch tv in Angry) What's been the problem with twoleftfeet do you know, BonyM?

busybusybee · 02/05/2006 21:20

I wouldnt advise ordering anything from 2leftfeet Bobley

I have a dutailier chair and love it - I think mine came from John Lewis so maybe you could try them

I would definitely advise paying the extra for one with a break - but avoid the footrests :o

PrettyCandles · 02/05/2006 21:22

How funnty that you say the arms are too high - I found exactly the opposite! Though my model is 5yo, so maybe they've changed.

I found my Dutailer chair utterly wonderful in late pregnancy, and also great for bedtime story-reading (with only one child), but utterly useless for breastfeeding. The arms were too low (or maybe I'm too tall?) and the shape of the back meant that I didn't feel any lumbar support and couldn't rest my head without tilting it too far back for comfort.

busybusybee · 02/05/2006 21:23

2happy = 2leftfeet take your money and then you might have to wait ages for the order to arrive - lots of negative threads on mn about them AVOID

PrettyCandles · 02/05/2006 21:25

BTW, dh loves the gliding footstool, but I find it too high. Though I always used a low pouffe when I bf'd in the chair, because I needed something to raise my lap.

busybusybee · 02/05/2006 21:25

no head support is true - Ikea do a head support thingy which does the trick for me

2Happy · 02/05/2006 21:30

Thanks busybusybee. I seriously want one of these glider chairs for next time, so might have tried them, thanks for the warning. Smile

Bobley · 02/05/2006 22:02

Thats good to know about twoleftfeet...

They have opened a showroom in Bedford now so maybe going to collect it is the best option instead of getting it delivered?!

Glad most people are loving the chairs though, can't wait for mine!

Just in case anyone is interested, and if you want one, you'll probably have to move quickly:

On www.bargaincrazy.com, in the "Price Plunge" section, they have a glider rocker chair reduced to only £60.

I've bought a fair amount from this website without too many problems, so it is genuine.

However, as with most of their stuff "when its gone its gone", so if you're interested, get in there quick....
