Hi all,

Not sure how all this works. I am a first time mum to be and first time user on mumsnet. Hoping for a little bit of information. I am 5 weeks pregnant and I am experiencing some mild cramping every so oftain. There is no spotting. I have heard this can sometimes happen. Has/Did anyone experience cramping at 5 weeks? Is this normal? Getting a little worried.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Its most likely to be your uterine muscles and ligaments stretching to accommodate as the embryo grows. Its disconcerting but nothing to worry about usually. Most women get a degree of this.

Oh and congratulations. If you have a look under Antenatal Clubs you will probably find a thread for your due month where you can chat to women at the same point in pregnancy as you.

Thank you Pascha. That's really helpful. Smile

I'm 7+4 and get the odd pain etc but Im sure its all normal. mw said as long as there's no bleeding and you're not doubled over in pain then don't worry!!Smile Smile

Thank you all. It's good to hear this has happened to others. I am off to join the October board. This has to be the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me. How sad does that sound. Thank you again.

Congratulations! I am 5 weeks too ! Quite daunting and not looking forward to working up until the last minute. I've had small cramping feelings too and no blood - I don't think it's a problem.

Congratulations Clenguas. You are right it is daunting but so glad I came on here now. Not sure what to do with work.. Think will not say anything till I really have to. Is that bad? I work in a male dominated environment. First appointment with doctor Monday. Hoping she books me in for an early dating scan. I think seeing him/her will make it more real. I have done two tests already and nearly bought another today just to make sure.. Ha ha. Is that crazy? Have you spoken to your doc or a MC? Do you have any other signs, MS etc?

I had quite a bit of cramping, and some spotting around that sort of time - now 16+1 and all seems to be going well. Congrats!

I had cramping (bit like period cramps) in the early weeks with all 3 of my pregnancies. My DSs are now 6, 3 and 7 weeks. A lot of my friends also reported similar. My midwife says it's to do with the ligaments and muscles around your uterus stretching. Congratulations!

GrammyPissedRUs · 23/02/2013 22:58

I experienced cramping in the early weeks and went on to full term and delivered a healthy baby. It sounds normal to me but there is nothing stopping you raising your concern with your midwife for a bit of professional reassurance which will enable you to relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

Yup, had period type cramping around that time, which I was told was my uterus and ligaments expanding and stretching; it stopped after a couple of weeks. Congrats and good luck!
