Slow heartbeat at 7 weeks

Hello all

I've just had a 7 week scan and the doctor was concerned as the baby's heart rate was 'only' 120 bpm when it should be 160. I've also been bleeding today.

Subsequent Googling (awful i know but can't help it) tells me that 120 falls within the normal range.

Has anyone experienced the same thing and had a healthy pregnancy afterwards?

Many thanks

K

Is it possible the dates are wrong?

Kelly1814 · 21/02/2013 13:21

HI ExpatAl

Date of last period was Jan 1st and my cycle is usually spot on. In theory I am 7+ 2 but the size of the baby was only 6+5.

If the dates are wrong, would this mean that the heartbeat was more 'normal'? Sorry for my ignorance, first pregnancy!

If you were 6 weeks or so it would be lower, around the rate of 120. Also measurements at that stage aren't so accurate.
The bleeding is worrying but could be anything. Do you have any pain?

You cannot always detect the heartbeat at this early stage so I personally think it is nothing to worry about. Easy for me to say though try not to worry about it and keep away from google x

No pain, thankfully. It was bright red with a small clot (sorry TMI) this morning but seems to have stopped now.

The other thing to worry about (joy) is that my cervix is very short due to multiple Lletz procedures, so once I get through this (positive thinking!) i will most likely need a cerclage. Which in itself is very challenging apparently as I have literally hardly any cervix left.

Deep breaths! thank you so much for the support. I have zero friends with babies and I live overseas so it's a tough one.

Well that sounds like a good cause of the bleeding. I'll pass on a bit of advice I've just read on another thread and it's good for me too:

'you will worry if it will stick, you'll worry whether there will be a healthy baby on the 12 week scan, until you feel movement, the 20 week scan, worry about prem labour, birth probs....then worry if they're breathing overnight, if they're making their milestones, eating enough/too much, if they'll be ok at nursery, if they'll have friends, if school will be ok, if their first boyfriend/gf will treat them well, if they'll get good grades, manage uni, marry/partner someone kind, be able to have the kids they want..... The worrying will NEVER STOP, from this moment on. So you have to push it to one side for your own sanity. For today you are pregnant, enjoy it as much as you can.'
