Cot bedding

Hi,

Looking for something like this but certainly don't want to spend more on the bedding than the actual cot!

Where can I get something like this (could be pink or neutral) for at least half that price?

Thanks! :)

Well, the bumpers are a no-no, but as far as sheets and blankets go you can pick up some bargains on ebay.

Fancy beddin like that I just don't 'get' cot bumpers are redundant. Don't need blankets as cellular ones are fantastic. Just get loads of coloured fitted sheets off amazon job done. We got baby Baum ones think they were like a fiver each

Thanks! Are the bumpers there to protect the baby?

I kitted out DS's nursery in Mothercare stuff about 2 years ago. If you shop around you can often find discount codes online and if you go through Quidco you can get a chunk of cash back. I ended up paying about 40% of the actual price as I managed to apply the discount codes while they were running their own nursery promotion.

In hindsight even that wasn't money well spent. Mothercare quality isn't great and is certainly not worth what they charge for it. We have only just started using the coverlets now before that it was just sheets and a sleeping bag.

Only spend the money if you plan to keep the same decor for baby, toddler and beyond.

I don't know what bumpers are for Blush we got one given. Think it's only purpose is to make the cot look 'pretty'. Baby always goes in foot to foot and when she was little rarely made it to the top of the cot. And now she's bigger if she does n is banging her head she just moves! Honestly they are beyond pointless

Bunnychan · 21/02/2013 13:03

If you want a pretty cot set, try Asda or Home Bargains (I kid you not). I've seen some really nice ones there for a fraction of the normal price. I did buy an expensive pretty set with bumpers but we have a cot bed and can't decorate so this was my way of jazzing up the nursery lol x

ZuleikaD · 21/02/2013 13:04

Yes, my best guess is that the bumpers are to make parents feel that the cot is 'cosy'. But they're a health risk because they encourage overheating - cots have slats to encourage free air flow. Babies can't move enough to bump their heads for ages, and when they can they're perfectly capable of moving away!

melliebobs · 21/02/2013 13:07

Exactly Grin

I think bumpers are now thought of as a safety risk as babies could get their faces trapped up against them. Or something. And when they get older they can use them to climb up on.

Unless you plan on baby sleeping in a cot from day one, you could wait and see what type of bedding suits you and baby. DS slept swaddled in Mothercare cellular blankets and fleece blankets when he was newborn and in the Moses basket. Bear in mind that if you have a sicky baby you will be washing these a lot. When he moved into his cot at about 5 months he was in a sleeping bag (Grobag). At 2 he still sleeps in a sleeping bag.

Also bear in mind you will probably get given blankets as gifts when baby is born.

One of the best bits of 'bedding' we've used for both DCs is a baby sheepskin. They're warm in the winter and cool in the summer, babies sleep incredibly well on them (plus they're super-portable so if you need baby to sleep somewhere else you just take the sheepskin and it smells/feels right to them) and when they outgrow them you use them as rugs in their bedrooms.

I got 4 piece bedding set from Asda baby event £28! Hello earnest it's a sheet, blanket, quilt and bumper!

AlohaMama · 22/02/2013 06:02

Here in US cot bumpers are advised against due to risk of cot death. The only ones that are supposed to be OK are mesh ones that allow airflow. Some people like them so babes don't get arms caught in bars etc but I've never used them.

AlisonL1981 · 22/02/2013 08:34

I got my bedding set for kiddicare. Half the price of the sets in stores!

gardenpixie32 · 22/02/2013 09:17

We got fitted sheets in ASDA and swaddled them in the first 8 weeks. Now we use Gro Bags and have bought Air Wrap Bumpers as one of the babies keeps knocking her head against the cot bars.

Cheap and cheerful!

12ylnon · 22/02/2013 16:48

Tbh i really wouldn't bother with a fancy bedding set.

I have 3 fitted sheets (bought them white, but dyed them to get the colour we wanted) 2 waterproof mattress covers and will be using sleeping bags. No bumper- the family i work for uses them and it makes me so nervous.

I found that blankets were rubbish. DS1 just kicked them off and got cold. People love to give blankets as gifts anyway. DS1 got 6 when he was born!

Rockchick1984 · 22/02/2013 16:56

Agree with most other posters - bumpers aren't recommended as can be a factor towards cot death, and make it easy for baby to climb out. Quilts not recommended until 12 months by which time these size quilts are too small and thin IME. Plain sheets are best as they are going to get covered in sick and poo, you need to be able to put them on a hot wash without worrying about patterns etc. Definitely suggest a muslin cloth under baby's head so that you can just change that rather than full bedding if baba is sick!

I bought a cot bedding bundle with DS1, realised very quickly what a mistake it had been!!

Coleminer · 22/02/2013 17:03

Try Dunelm Mill, it's much cheaper.
