I'm an early (5 weeks) first timer. I've downloaded one app so far, from Health and Pregnancy Ltd, which seems pretty good.

I'm very nervous (this is a long-awaited fertility treatment win) and not really thinking beyond by 6 week scan at the moment, but if that goes well, I'd like to start looking ahead a bit. I've focussed so much on the BFP, I really need to learn a bit about what comes after that, so I would appreciate your recommendations.

Thx all.

NHS Scotland have a baby app for phones called "Ready Steady Baby" its the same name and has all the same info on it that the book you get up here has. Weekly development updates etc. I am guessing the general rules will be the same throughout the country

I bought what to expect when your expecting when pregnant with first DC. Its good but not great

I like the What to Expect series. I found a lot of the terms to be US and some things differ, but in terms of baby growth, development, milestones etc it was very informative and not judgy. For product information I liked Gurgle magazine best, but they are all quite samey. Boards like this are invaluable for ideas too!

If you don't already have one, get the kindle app. Feeding can take a lifetime, as can expressing if you go that way, but can be done one handed leaving you a spare hand for something more interesting lol! Books need 2 hands, the kindle was my friend on many a long night x

I was the same after ivf - never planned beyond the next appointment. midwife would ask questions about various things and would laugh when I said i hadn't thought about it. After waiting so long i didn't want to tempt fate.

anyway - fast forward a few months and he's here. and boy does he let us know it. so, the book I've used the most is Dr Harvey Karp's 'Baby Bliss'. After wondering what the hell had hit me, this book has saved my sanity. it's not everyone's cup of tea but I was almost tearing my hair out those first few weeks.

The most useful thing, I have to say, both during pg and after birth - people on here. generally an answer to anything at any time of the day or night.

(thsts why I still lurk in the pg section. if I can be anywhere near as helpful as people were to me I'll be happy)

We've just finished reading this www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Spocks-Baby-Child-Care/dp/1439189293/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1361374938&sr=8-3 and we love it. It's such straight forward, sensible parenting advice.

I quite enjoy the babycentre app. I mainly just look at the baby development bit.

Thanks for the recommendations so far. The app I have gives baby development in fruit sizing - ending with a watermelon. Shock

I have a kindle that is already well-used. I've discovered on my commute that it is very handy when one arm is occupied, so it looks like that will continue to be useful.

Any more?

Kafri congrats on your arrival and thank you for coming back to help a scardie newby!
