33 week MW appointment. Increased BP and trace protein. Why was nothing mentioned?

Hi, am 33 weeks pregnant with PFB and not sure if I should be concerned or not.

I missed my 31 week MW appointment and could not get another one until 33 weeks, so as a result of this won't be getting my 34 week appointment. Annoying that I now won't see a MW until 36 weeks but it's entirely my own fault so I guess I can't complain.

Had a new MW today due to moving areas. She was quite dismissive of anything I had to say, said everything was fine, chucked (literally) a BF dvd at me and got the whole meeting over in 5 minutes.

I've just read my notes and my BP has gone from a steady 110/60 to 130/78 and there was 'trace protein' in my urine, which is a first.

I know I don't meet the BP criteria for pre-eclampsia but I can't help but be concerned with the increase and the trace of protein.

Am I just being precious or can I do something/call someone?

Hiya Dannilion. I'm sorry your appointment was so disapointing, but the trace protein I wouldn't worry about. From what I've been told That's normally becuase of a bit if discharge ending up in the wee pot.

Also My blood pressure did almost the exact same thing around the same point as you. The midwives said it was fine, but they'd keep an eye out as it was creeping up a bit. So for now I wouldn't be too worried, but if you're still worrying why not give the community midwives a call? They'll be more than happy to set your mind at ease.

Another thing to mention is, were you uncomfortable during the appointment or at all nervous? That would bring your blood pressure up.

Hello Dannilon, same thing happened to me with my first pregnancy and i will suggest you give the community midwives a call. In my case it went from "nothing to be concerned" to "you are not leaving the hospital" in 10 days, but when originally the midwife saw the BP and urine traces she wanted me to go to the hospital every 2 days to have blood pressure and urine checked. I'm really happy she did it because in the end it was pre-eclampsia and I ended up with an emergency CS in the middle of the night.

I will call the community midwives and insist to be checked.

dannilon you can see your midwife whenever you like. If I wasn't happy, I would make another appointment to see a different midwife. You don't have to stick to the weeks they recommend. I saw a midwife every 2 weeks from 28 weeks.

Sounds like me the day before my pfb arrived, later that evening I started to swell, went in to hospital and woke with killer headache, next morning ++++ in urine and bp went crazy, I was so swollen they couldn't get a needle to obtain blood to check for organ damage.

See your GP in mean time to check urine and bp.

It's frustrating but your stats need to be above certain limits before they will do anything, I've just had 10 days of monitoring for PE because my wee was +2 and my bp went high, I also had high abdominal pain, headaches and extremely swollen legs. (I'm 37 weeks)

They did send me into hospital twice but unless the 2nd number on the bp is over 95 they don't worry and as the protein dropped to +1 they also weren't concerned.

The hospital took bloods to test for urates and again unless they are over a certain limit they send you home.

I'm home again and wee/bp is back to normal, the midwife said it's common for these to fluctuate in pregnancy but to just keep an eye on it, I've been to the chemist to buy my own wee test strips and am popping to Lloyds chemist every 3 days to get them to do a free blood pressure check.
