Help, gp says she thinks I'm pregnant but I'm scared

Ok, I’m on cd40 today. I feel nauseous, have come out in spots, feel hormonal, tender nipples, but have done two pg tests and they’re negative. So, I went to the gp and she said that she thinks I am probably pregnant and not to take a negative test as not being pregnant because they’re often wrong, very often. She even told me that she didn’t get a bfp with her second pg until she was 11 weeks, even though she “knew” she was pg. She told me to go home and to do another pg test in two weeks and that she’s sure it will be bfp. In fact she said that if it isn’t “I’ll eat my hat”. But I’m scared. Dh, and others on here have said that a gp wouldn’t say something like that unless she was sure, she wouldn’t put her reputation on the line like that, but I’m scared to get excited in case I’m just deluding myself. Please help? Do I dare get excited? Or am I right to be cautious? Just as background we've been ttc since May of last year.

I would still be cautius. I have had a GP sure I was pregnant even though I knew I wasn't. I missed 3 periods and had lots of the symptoms I'd had in my pregnancies, eg, needing to wee lots, very tender, tingly breasts, hormonal, moody, spotty etc.

I still don't know why I missed the periods as most of my bloods came back normal and I was also scanned which was normal. They are lots of reasons for a missed period, pregnancy being the most obvious but by no means the only. Things like hormone imbalance, thyroid problems, weigh loss, stress etc can be enough. Once you've missed one you often then get into the vicious cycle of worrying about it, therefore missing more.

Have you had bloods done to test your hormone levels?

I hope you get a bfp but I think you are right not to get your hopes up. It is quite unusual to not get a bfp when your hormone levels are high enough to cause a missed period.

yep I had blood tests last month to see if I was ovulating, and I did. also had thyroid function test, as I had an overactive thyroid 12 years ago so this is something I have checked regularly.

I'm very much a realist, over the weekend I'd pretty much convinced myself I was pg, now I've had the bfn I'm pretty much sure I'm not, even though I'm still simptomatic.

DH has said this is make or break, if we're not pg this month and have started to miss periods, then it's time to accept we're not going to have another baby and call it a day.

Well, still nothing to report apart from that I woke up this morning feeling like shite, it was a struggle to drag myself out of bed even though ds came running in at 7:00 shouting waky waky rise and shine! TBH my head has started to spin now and coming up with all sorts of nightmare senarios, if I'm not pregnant and my thyroid isn't disfunctional then what if it's something serious. God the human body can be a bitch when it wants to be!

hugz to you hun!!

have you thought about going back to gp?

I know it's the easiest thing for someone else to say this, but try and not stress.

Also as dh has said this is the last "try" it can be hard for you right now, but I'm thinking that it may be a case of when all the preasure for a result(baby) is off you and dh, you can relax (well try) and things may happen.

I'll def keep an eye on this thread tho either way :)

I've written more on the positive may thread but basically we've decided to draw a line under ttc now, it's been a year and I can't go through this any more. I have lots to be thankful for in my life though so am not going to let what I can't have drag me down :). Thank you for all messages of support/encouragement was very grateful for all of them :). Wish you all the best with your pregnancies and ttc :)

Oh and .. thinking of suggestions for that hat my gp is going to eat :O
