Stabbing pain in rib cage

I'm 24+2 pregnant and have PGP which is getting progressively worse. I usually sleep on my left hand side but my pelvis is getting so sore I wake up four or five times a night and need to move around to ease the pain. For the last week I have resorted to sleeping on my right hand side for some of the night. The only trouble is lying on this side seems to cause a weird stabbing pain on the right side of my ribcage, which then wakes me up again. I was just wondering if this is normal or something I should raise with the midwife? I can't find anything about it in my pregnancy books.

It's always worth raising unusual aches and pains with your midwife.

Can I ask how big your bump is compared to your frame? I ask because it could be rib flare, caused by pressure being put on your rib cage and forcing it outwards. It is usually felt on the right hand side. I have it, and I also have PGP, but I'm 35 weeks. The rib pain started 3 weeks ago and is intermittent. I'm also quite short and my bump is consequently very sticky out.

Have you been referrered to physio for the PGP? It's worth enquiring with your MW or GP if not. The physio will help with rib pain/rib flare as well.

Def worth mentioning to your midwife but mine was unconcerned.

Mines more of a sharp ache but they are putting it down to the baby liking to have her head directly under my ribs.

I'm 31 weeks pg currently but had it a good few weeks. I blame it on my being a short arse. Also DS was super long when born and this baby certainly shows no inclination to curl up rather than stretch out!

I find trying to "lengthen" that side of my torso helps, as if I'm stretch out the space between my pelvis and ribs.

I do have quite a big bump and have looked obviously pregnant since 12 weeks - I'm only 5'3'' and normally have a fairly narrow rib cage, so it could be the bump pushing up I suppose. All my bras have become too tight across the back while my cup size has remained the same. Baby is still too small to kick me in the ribs and I have a fundal placenta so I just presumed that the rib pain must be coming from something else.

I was referred to see a physio 5 weeks ago and am still waiting for an appointment. I am worried that at this rate I will have had the baby before I actually get to see someone about it!
