Anyone else doing this all the time? I'm 11+5 weeks and keep having very disrupted sleep - waking at 2/3am, trying for ages to get back to sleep, feeling sick and hungry, then eventually creeping downstairs for a cheeky banana and a round of toast. Or two. Wouldn't mind too much but it's becoming a regular routine, as if I wasn't dog-tired and putting on the pounds enough as it is! Any suggestions for a more blissful night's kip?

I had this in my first pg and I think it is starting again in this one at 8 weeks. To be honest I don't think there is much you can do about it except go with it. I used to keep bananas and almonds by the bed - good at helping you feel full quickly. Eating a banana just before I go to sleep helps too. I find it hard to get back to sleep if I get up and go downstairs so in-bed scoffing is best for me!

I did this in my first pregnancy too! hasn't happened yet this time and I'm nearly 10 weeks. cereal was my snack of choice. the only way to counter it I found was to have a bowl before bed frequently.
I put on a pile of weight in my first 12 weeks but figured my body needed it and have since lost it and am back to where I started, but a different shape with a bit of a Tummy. I'm being an optimist and believing that bit of tummy is doing the job for me this preg.

I remember getting up to cook steak when I was pregnant with DD. I couldn't sleep for craving steak so badly! Now 9 weeks again and so far not waking hungry in the night. but if anything disturbs me from about 4.30 onwards I'll head down to the kitchen for porridge for my first breakfast. Nothing secret about it though, I'm pregnant and eating like a horse (LIKE a horse, no tesco burgers for me!)

catladycourtney1 · 11/02/2013 08:42

Oh yes. I've slept badly all the way through this pregnancy, and in the beginning whenever I woke up I had to go and throw up, and then eat something to settle my stomach before I could go back to sleep. Now, I'm not sick anymore but constantly starving. I have horrendous heartburn too, and the only thing that seems to solve that is to be constantly bloody eating.

MisselthwaiteManor · 11/02/2013 08:51

I was like this at the start, waking up starving hungry and sick no matter how much or how late I ate before bed. I had to eat or there was no way I was getting back to sleep. It passed by about 10 weeks, I still wake up hungry but in the morning not at 2am!

AliceWChild · 11/02/2013 08:55

I used to get up and eat porridge in the night. I had to stay a few nights in a hotel and took some of those sachets with me.

Agree with the other poster, it's nothing secret or you shouldn't be doing. You're pregnant, you're bound to be hungry, you need those extra pounds. Enjoy don't feel guilty.

seeker · 11/02/2013 08:55

It's not "secret" or "cheeky". You're making a baby and you're hungry!

Just make sure what you're eating is reasonably healthy- whole meal toast and not loads of butter, fruit or a bowl of whole grain cereal......and go ahead!

smallsmith · 11/02/2013 11:22

Thanks everyone, from now on the night time snacking will be guilt free and not at all sneaky or secretive! Now where's my third breakfast...

I did this up to about 16 weeks. Had to get up every night and eat a ginger nut biscuit or a Special K bar and have a glass of milk - and then rinse mouth with mouthwash or I'd wake up with horrible taste in my mouth. It slowly ebbed away though.

AliceWChild · 11/02/2013 15:46

Pleased to hear it smoothsmith

AliceWChild · 11/02/2013 15:46

Sorry smallsmith.

knittingirl · 11/02/2013 16:29

I've had this since I was about 6 weeks. Just at 12 weeks now and had my first night with no midnight kitchen visit last night - feel much more awake today, bliss!

It does mean that I'm not sure if the tight clothes are baby or fat but meh!
