Upper Abdominal Pain - 29 weeks - not sure what to do.

I'm 29+3 and having on off upper abdominal pain. It's to the sides at the top of my bump. Second baby.

I've phoned the unit at the hospital for advice but they've brushed it off as a 'bug'. It doesn't feel like a bug. Just aching on/off pain.

I'm not sure what to do now without seeming like a total hypochondriac (which I am a bit really).

I'm a t1 diabetic and so more prone to preeclampsia and know that this kind of pain is one of the signs. It's not unbearable but definitely enough to notice.

I had this, at 28/29 weeks too. Sort of stabbing pains under my ribs on the right side, they weren't excruciating but took my breath away at times. I started seeing spots too so I rang nhs direct (it was a sunday) and they told me to go straight to A&E. So naturally I started panicking then, but I went in thinking they would just check my blood pressure... I ended up being kept in for three days! And they never found anything wrong, my bp was fine, bloods and urine all fine. They thought I had a blood clot initially but the pains got better and I was fine otherwise so they didn't even bother scanning for one. In the end they put it down to stress and normal pregnancy stretching pains.

But, anyway... when is your next appointment? It might be worth ringing your midwife and seeing if she thinks it's a good idea to see you sooner and check your blood pressure.

I had similar one evening - I called 111 who arranged for me to go to OOH. I actually got admitted (!) but just because they were cautious but they thought it might be my gall bladder. I was admitted to the emergency admissions unit rather than maternity. I just had bloods, urine dip and consultant review then was discharged.

If the unit aren't helpful, I'd try 111 personally.

Thanks ladies. It's eased off now so it might have been bump stretching- ness (I hope) cos all of a sudden it's huge! I've been really overdoing it too (hard not to with a toddler) so might try and take it easy tonight, thanks again for you advice. X
