travelling to a very hot place while pregnant

I have just booked to go to India in April and May which will be during my second trimester, which the mw said was a good time to travel. Has slowly dawned on me that since it could be 40 + degrees, this might not be safe for my baby. Of course I know that women do have their complete pregnancies there, but I'm concerned that the temperature change might not be good for me or the baby. I know it will be hellishly hot and uncomfortable, but if it's only a matter of comfort (or discomfort), I'm OK, I'll cope, but if it's a matter of safety for my baby, then I'm much more concerned. Anyone know anything about this?

Hmm, the heat wouldn't worry me so much as the chance of food poisoning being much higher. Presumably you would be in air conditioned hotel most of the time.

Not sure I would have wanted the long haul flight either - what week will you be in?

Was there a particular reason that you wanted to go to India?

yes, going to see my in-laws. feels important to go since we won't be able to travel later/after baby is born and i want dd to see them too. will NOT be in a/c hotel, though my bedroom is airconditioned. assuming i will just need to walk up and down a lot in the flight, and maybe wear those special socks. but you are right about the food poisoning, i didn't think about that, though I did live in India for several years until recently, so hoping my immunity will be quite good.
leaving in 19th week, back in 22nd.

I travelled somewhere hot between 26 and 30 weeks it was fine, only a little uncomfortable at times. I would NOT risk India pregnant. The risk of food poisoning is just too great and the health care there would scare me too (I have been there several times) How far along would you be? You'd been bloody good travel insurance.

I am guessing that you know more about staying safe with regards to food and drink than I do, if you have lived there :)

I wouldn't worry about the change of temperature, other than you might take a bit longer to adjust to the heat than you normally would.

thanks for the advice, greatly relieved about the heat thing and glad to be reminded about being more careful about food poisoning. the city i am going to has excellent health care facilities, not far from where i will be staying, so less concerned about that.
thanks for the replies :-)
