Ok so had my 20 week scan today, already under consultant care because of a previous premature birth and the scan revealed an anterior placenta but they were quite vague about it, someone (friend) asked me if it was "low lying" but I havent a clue and my notes just say Left anterior. But what does all this mean in regards to labour especially if I go into labour before the next scan, can anyone help?

Anterior means its at the front which might mean you feel movements a bit later. If they haven't noted that its low lying on your notes then there's nothing to worry about. If it was, it could mean that they would deliver by c-section, but they can & do move up as your uterus grows.
