Hi all, I'm 20 weeks pregnant, and have never been more uncomfortable in my life... (and I thought I was supposed to be blooming!!)

My hips are SO painful, especially at night and when I am trying to roll over, I can't stay too long on one side as the pain becomes horrific, so I'm sleeping really badly, my legs, lower back and hips also kill me when I'm walking...

I bought one of those pregnancy pillows but it doesn't seem to be helping...
any handy tips or hints or even some collective moaning would be nice - so I don't feel like the only one!!

I'm getting this too! Achey hips at night, then if I roll on to my back I get pins and needles down my arm and wake up. It's a huge deal to turn over in bed!

I asked my midwife about it at my 24 wk check up this week and she just gave me contact details for a maternity physio team at the hospital. Apparently you shouldn't try any stretches or anything as could be damaging - annoying as I was hoping there were just some exercises I could do myself to ease it!

Do you find it's worse if you sit or stand for too long? I work in an office and need to remind myself to get up out of my seat regularly otherwise it's getting painful to walk.

Brew and Biscuit and sympathy to you two!

Hello!!
I am 38 weeks pregnant but think you should tell your midwife about this because it could be something called SPD. Don't worry its not serious and doesn't affect your baby. It just puts you in plenty of pain in your hips legs and back until you give birth :) I've had it since 20 weeks. If you tell her about it she will hopefully refer you to physio to help find out whats going on and give you some help (i.e. a support belt, crutches etc)

Good Luck x

Try buying a memory foam mattress topper...worked for me. You will probably need to air it for a day or so before using it. If my hips become really bad I also sleep on my back...which I know isn't recommended but needs must!

I'm now 28 weeks and around 20 weeks I was feeling really uncomfortable and felt I should be blooming and wasn't.
I was referred to physio who gave me some exercises, mostly pelvic floors, and a support band which had helped. I had mild SPD which at its worst could barely walk but it's eased off now and even though my bump is a lot bigger I feel more comfortable.
I don't know the professional advice on stretching but I always stretch my leg arm and back muscles when I get up for the day and sometimes before bed. Only gentle ones though and I have found its helped.
All the best xxx
