Hi there, I'm 9 weeks pregnant and I have my first scan in 3 weeks. Should the midwife visit me before this?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You'll see the hospital mw at the same time I'd have thought, they do here (Barnsley). Although I usually see my community mw around 6 weeks and she books the scan and hospital booking in appt.

Last pregnancy I didn't see a midwife till my 12 week Scan. This time I saw one at 5 weeks but in a different health authority. So it depends where you live.

You should really see a m/w about 8wks to do a 'booking' appointment. WHich means they take a history of previous pregnancies, ur health, dads health etc. Lasts about 30mins. You should maybe fone ur local maternity team to find out or ask GP surgery

I phoned my doctors for the same reason and turns out there was an error and I should have seen mw at 8 weeks. I saw her the week after my scan and it was no problem; it was only medical history anyway so the timming made no difference except I knew there was definitely a baby lol x

I had to have seen the MW before my scan, they wouldn't do it without me having my handheld notes and being consented by the MW. Usually you have to self-refer, so phone GP and ask for the number for the community midwifery team.

Yeh phone ur GP, u really need to see a m/w before scan - so your 'booking' bloods can be done.

Has your GP written a referral for you? I didn't know when my appointments would be. Received an appointment letter for bloods and scan, then the MW booking appointment came a few days later when they phoned me. The dates all worked out - MW, then bloods, then scan.

I have received a letter with my scan appointment but it says nothing regarding bloods, it says a midwife will get hold of me to arrange antenatal appointment but I haven't heard nothing more :-/
