PGP/SPD coming and going???

I am 24 weeks pregnant with DC2 and I been having mild/moderate lower backache since early pregnancy but over the weekend I went out shopping and after a couple of hours was in absolute agony. I could barely walk a few paces without having to sit down because of the pain. It was all around my lower back and underneath my bump. It also felt like my groin area was bruised/swollen.
The following day I was slightly better however by the evening I was again finding it very difficult to walk due to the pain.

I saw my midwife yesterday who diagnosed me with pelvic girdle pain however I am now finding that the pains are coming and going as opposed to being constant. For instance today I feel pretty much normal but I have been finding that even when I feel ok during the day, by the evening I am in pain again. Does this sound like PGP or could it be something else as I thought that the pain would have been constant.

Also to be honest I feel like a bit of a fraud as my poor DH was running around all weekend because I wasn't able to move and yet today I am fine. I have also cancelled all appointments (I'm a mobile beauty therapist) due to not being able to lift my equipment out of my car but I feel that I may have been a bit hasty now.

Watching closely as I had exactly the same concern! The pain started around 16wks and increased to epic proportions (esp. after a short trip to Ikea a month ago when I almost collapsed in agony with pain just like you've described) - saw MW last week, she said SPD, see GP - GP said SPD and said he's referring me to physio - and then, just like that the symptoms have started abating. Feeling a bit Hmm now and wondering what it could mean. I was wondering whether just staying off my feet and not pushing it has led to it easing off - but it's almost gone completely today!

Nah, mine's been like this - physio said its common and the best type to have. You'll notice that it gets worse after you've overdone it, so the advice is to rest as much as possible to help minimise symptoms.

Unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly, mine has got steadily worse as my pregnancy advances. Started around 14 weeks with intermittent pain, now at 36 weeks I'm struggling to walk more than about ten mins at a time (it could be lots worse!). Will be very glad to finish work soon, although my toddler makes it hard to properly rest.

Yeah, it's totally normal for it to come and go. I've had it since week 16, mildly, then it eased off around week 34 and came back with a vengeance last week (now 39 weeks). It's worse if I overdo it but warm baths and sitting with feet up and legs together really helps. Driving and stairs are bad!!!

Do take care not to overdo it if you're having a good day. It's so hard not to feel like a fraud though but it is so easy to hurt yourself with this.

Yeah totally normal for me too. I was referred to a physio at about 22 weeks I think. Some days its okay others not and I feel it in the evening/next couple of days if I overdo it.

Pushchairs and trolleys are bad for me.

I have a support belt which really helps me. My sil suffered with the same thing in one of her pregnancies and said she got the belt too late to help properly.

Physio advised me if possible housework etc to be done in bursts and not standing up for more than 20 minutes. I have a toddler and find it is much better for me to take her out walking rather than the pushchair. Her speed is prefect for me at the moment :) and it doesnt affect the spd as much.
