My poor friend is desperate. Shes 9 days over due and they have her booked in for a section on Friday as they cant induce her due to her last baby being breech therefore ending in c-section.
Shes tried lots of things but any advice would be wonderful. Thanks

I ate a whole pineapple when 12 days late. 1 hour later a contraction! DS born about 10 hours later

moonshine · 24/04/2006 17:51

Two that always come up are having sex and and eating a curry. Of the two I could only stomach the second option at the end of 9 months - and co-incidentally or not I did go into labour the next day.

reflexology

TheBlonde · 24/04/2006 18:01

why can't they induce??

malachismum · 24/04/2006 19:30

Thanks for the tips. They cant induce because she had a section last time and there is a 1 in 20 chance of her scar rupturing.

I've heard about the pineapple too.

mazzystar · 24/04/2006 19:41

reflexology.

acupuncture/moxibustion
i expect a homeopath would reckon they could have a crack at it too.

oooggs · 24/04/2006 19:44

an arguement with a stranger started my labour a month early - it's a long story!!!!!

malachismum · 24/04/2006 20:24

Reflexology sounds like a good idea or maybe she just needs to pick a fight with someone.lol

Nipple stimulation

LilacBump · 24/04/2006 20:33

SIL swears that a hot bath did the trick with her

mower · 24/04/2006 20:37

Raspberry leaf tablets and sex did it for me.

TheBlonde · 24/04/2006 20:55

Surely if labour starts normally she'll still have the 1/20 chance of rupture...

TuttiFrutti · 25/04/2006 09:53

TheBlonde - no, induced labour is very different to natural labour and produces stronger contractions. There is no gradual build-up as with a natural labour, they just start really strong and close together straight away (can you tell I've been through it??!). So most hospitals won't induce a woman who's had a C-section previously, because induced contractions carry a greater chance of scar rupture.

I am having acupuncture tomorrow in an attempt to start things off. I am not overdue yet, but am planning a VBAC so trying to get in a bit early.

lusciouslynda · 25/04/2006 10:45

I am due today. Really fed up with people asking me about it.

Have been told to have lots of sex. Can't really get up much enthusiasm for it. My DH looked at me as if I must have finally lost the plot when I mentioned it to him - having a grumpy, oversensitive, tired wife must be such a turn off!!

I am really suffering from heartburn so cant really bear the thought of a curry. Do you really think it works?

What about the pineapple? I never heard of that before. Probably a silly question but does it have to be fresh or will tinned do?

What else can anyone suggest?

I am also planning VBAC - didn't know that I couldn't be induced. Now feeling a bit more desperate.

PandaG · 25/04/2006 10:56

Not sure whether it was the curry, sex, or falling down our friends' stairs that did the trick for me with DS - and he was 13 days early. Curry and sex weren't deliberately to start labour btw, and fall was obviously an accident, but think it may have helped...not that I advise your friend to fall down steep terrace stairs! Smile

malachismum · 25/04/2006 12:55

He he, well shes going for some reflexology today so fingers crossed, I think you have to eat fresh pineapple.

cece · 25/04/2006 13:01

has to be fresh pineapple.

lusciouslynda

  • is this your first - DH wa slike that about sexd with my first. But tell him it'll be his last chance for a while due to sore bits and he'll come around Wink DH certainly made sure he didn't amke that mistake the second time pShock
lusciouslynda · 25/04/2006 14:03

Cece, not my first but DD was born at 32 weeks by emergency cs - so completely different situation.

It actually feels quite weird to have a 3 yr old running about and have NO IDEA about natural childbirth, labour etc.

I have warned DH about how this could be his last chance for ages - but maybe it was the snarl and wagging finger that put him off. Or the fact that now he has to do it for medical reasons. What a sensitive soul!!

compo · 25/04/2006 14:05

I went on a really long work the day before i wetn into labour. I don't drive so we were walkign to the hosptial so dh could help me find where I'd have to go for my induction at the end of the week as he would be at work

malachismum · 30/04/2006 08:41

Well she had a girl.....8lb5oz with lots of hair!!! Sadly it was a c-section, she tried everything but it just was not meant to be, baby is healthy and thats the main point. Thanks for all your tips.
