What do I need for an August baby?

I've started looking at baby clothes but I've no idea what I will need to buy. I'm assuming that it will be fairly warm in August so what should I dress a new babay in? Will babygro's be too hot?

So far I have bought lots of vest and a few fleecy sleepsuits in larger sizes for when the weather turns cooler.

Congratulations! I am due in August too, but not started to buy anything yet. We have to clear out a lot of space at home first as not got biggest house in the world :-(

Hi Congratulations to you too!

We have a bit of clearing out to do too. We have a 2 bed flat and the second bedroom is currently being used as a bit of a dumping ground.

Hi, I am also due in August.. been talking to an experienced friend who says babies get quite hot as they can't regulate their temperature, so at night she put hers in a babygrow and swaddled him in a very thin muslin blanket, with a normal blanket over the top. Clothes-wise I am buying short sleeved, short legged babygrows, a few long sleeved and long legged and very few velour or fleece onsies. I think it's an idea to get a range of cheap things (asda online do some lovely things for only a couple of quid, as do tesco, also primark have some nice bits) and then when you know more, as you will quickly learn from experience, you can stock up on items baby is more comfortable in and ditch the bits s/he doesn't like. Hope that helps a bit! Congratulations! And hopefully you are feeling much more like your normal self now as you're just into your second trimester... wonderful, isn't it?! xx

Thanks - I hadn't thought of looking in the supermarkets actually.

Yes I am slowly emerging from the exhausted fog that I have been in for the past 2 months. I'm hoping in another few weeks that I may actually be able to stay awake past 9.30pm too! Grin

DS1 was August baby and it was a hot summer that year. Just wore short sleeved vests most of the time. Our house was hot at night and he often slept in just a vest with a sheet. On one night where it was 28/29 degrees he just had a nappy on and a sheet over him. My DS2 was a June baby and he spent last summer in the short sleeved short legged babygrows that soursweets mentions. Think he had some cute ones from H&M. Also he would just wear a sleepsuit/onesie with no vest underneath at night as the house we live in now is not so hot but stil warm on summer nights. Recommend you don't buy too much until you've had babes. You might have a tiny one or a huge one like mine. Never fit in newborn stuff and were in 3-6mths by 6 weeks old. Also your friends and family will buy loads of 0-3 or newborn and the babe will never get chance to wear it. If anyone asks you what to get say 3-6 or 6-9 months.

I had an August baby. You need to be prepared to layer the baby up. Some days ds was just in a vest and somedays it was a vest, sleep suit and cardigan. I bought some lovely soft, warm sheets to wrap him in when it turned cooler in an evening. Some nights though, he was just sleeping in a nappy.

A Moses basket and possibly a crib or cot plus a good supply of nappies and cotton wool.

A cagoul Wink

(I've had 2 August babies. Scorchio both times in the June and July, pissing down all August)

Love British weather. Congrats Grin

I had DS in August. TBH it was warm for about a week and then we plunged into the longest winter ever. It seemed like he was never going to see the sun! So don't buy too much summer stuff!
