MIL reckons you aren't allowed to unpack pushchair and crib/cot until the baby is born, and G-MIL backs her up (although she also reckons it's not allowed in the hosue entirely which is well just pushing it too far.)

Now I'm not entirely sure about all this, but I get paranoid and I don't want to tempt fate just in case.... we put up the crib after ds was born, and only checked all the bits were there with the buggy.

With this baby we're happy to leave the crib till it's born. However we're buying a phil and teds buggy. So IF you were to believe the old wives tales yadda yadda would it be bad luck to use the buggy (with ds in it?) before the babies born? So he gets used to it? As you have to attach a doubles seat for it, if we leave that packed will that be good enough? And would it be 'tempting fate' to unpack the seat?

I know, I'm a loon...

I didn't let anything in the house until after DS was born

then didn't let anythign in the house that was new until after DD was born

I'm NOT superstitious .. just didn't want a house full of crap until I needed it .. but the superstitious worked to ward off my mother Grin

bubblepop · 24/04/2006 14:37

wot a load of old baloney!Grin

Piggiesmum · 24/04/2006 14:52

Just do what you think is easiest/best for you and ignore all the b0ll0cks superstition/old wives tales rubbish.
If bad luck happens, it's going to happen whether you put the buggy/cot up or not.

God I hate all these stupid old wives tales Angry

Sorry rant over. I think my hormones are playing up.

Lottielou · 24/04/2006 15:21

I agree with piggiesmum.... I'm 33 weeks and have quite a lot of stuff in the house already. Granted not the cot, but that's only because it hasn't arrived yet. God forbid but if anything bad were to happen then you bringing things into the house isn't going to affect it one little bit.

Everyon'es different though, I would go with whatever you feel you want to do. Old wives tales are exaclty that...OLD!!! Smile

SHHHH · 24/04/2006 15:28

We put everything into dd's room (clothes/cot etc) only so it was ready for dd's arrival. However, the pram stayed at my mum and dads....Even the carrycot bit which we were using as a moses basket.

When mum and dad knew I was on my way home from hospital they made sure they had passed it on with dh.

BTW I am very supersticious (sp?) esp as we had mc'd x2 before.

mazzystar · 24/04/2006 15:29

We didn't have our cot or buggy until after Ds was born.

Mainly because the director of the evidently very relaxed mail order company we got it from was "away at a nappy conference" and wanted to see them before he sent them because he hadn't seen them before.

But even for the truly madly superstitious surely it would be fine to use a double buggy with just the older lo. You can always carry your handbag in the other section.

SHHHH · 24/04/2006 15:29

BTW I would probably use the pram now as it's a pram for ds (could look at it that way) and maybe not use the "seat" bit yet..??

fenny1 · 24/04/2006 15:35

My mum bought our stroller and wouldn't even let me bring it in house (we had gone out and got it).
I am not at all superstitious and so when the chance of a 3 wheeler came up at a bargain price I got it and put it in garage, hace checked it works, put it up and down and wheeled the cat around the garden in it!!!!!. The baby room is all set up bar cot which we can't decide on. Think all this stuff is nonsense adn rubbish. Get organised, you will be able to get used to it etc.

sniff · 24/04/2006 16:10

I have to say I am getting everything ready and my pram arrives in two weeks this is mainly so I am organised the mattresess get a chance to air and the kids & dog can get used to the stuff and have a good look before the baby comes home so they wont be that interested

my stuff has been in the house with the other 2 as well and the cot never got put down !!!

farseer · 24/04/2006 16:25

I didn't believe in old wives' tales and now my face is stuck like this Grin as a result of a windy day!! Smile

I believed in it all on my first but with no 3 arriving and DS2 having to change to a new pram with a toddler seat, I took him out in it before the baby arrived so that it wasn't yet another change that he had to get used to amongst all the others a new baby brings.

I made a big deal of it, telling him it was the big boy seat and showing him where the baby would be going. I told him his was for big boy's only and that the baby wouldn't be allowed in it. He was really proud of his seat and when the new baby arrived he took great pleasure in showing me,and every passing stranger, where she would lie and how he would go in the big boy seat.

I reckon you'll be busy enough when the new baby arrives so if I were in your position I'd get as much ready beforehand as possible so that you can focus your attention on the baby and helping DS get used to being a big brother.

Good luck with everything Smile

My DH just told me today that even if we order the pushchair we've chosen now for our first baba (I'm 25 weeks - just like to be organised!) it's not allowed in the house and it has to be delivered to his mum's place. I have never heard of this before, and it seems a bit odd cos the room we'll be turning into a nursery has been full of the cot and changing table (eBay bargain) and a steadily growing of assorted clothes and blankets we've had as pressies for weeks now. I will go along with it, but only cos I don't want too much clutter in the house, and I have requested that it's brought to our place a couple of weeks before the due date so I can get used to how it works!
We waited so long for this baby to be conceived, I just can't allow myself to think any negative thoughts whatsoever. Still get a bit freaked by one magpie, though...
