First Dr appointment

I got my BFP 2 weeks ago and made an appointment to see my Dr later the same week. I presumed they would do a test to confirm the pregnancy and maybe do a blood test (the leaflet they gave me after the appointment said they check for sickle cell anaemia and thalessaemia). However the Dr just gave me a bit of advice about eating well and not drinking / taking drugs and told me to make an appointment with the midwife at the 8-10 week point. He said there was no point doing another test since the at home test was as accurate as anything they could do.

Is this normal? Does the midwife do any necessary tests rather than the Dr?

This is totally normal. Bit of an anti-climax isn't it?

For some reason I expected the Dr to be as excited as I am! Instead she told me not to tell anyone until 12 weeks and not to buy things til the January sales. I think she must've been doubling up as a financial advisor that day too.

Midwife will give you all the wee and blood tests your heart desires. Congratulations!

OK great, was worried I just got a bit of a dud Dr! My SiL is pregnant in the US and they did a whole barrage of tests at her first appointment so I expected something like that when I went... Yes it was definitely an anti climax :)

Thanks for the congrats.. trying to keep excitement levels down as it is so early but its hard work!

I haven't seen a doctor at all, my midwife has handled everything. She will take all your blood tests, blood pressure, urine tests, mine did my flu jab as well. Congratulations Smile
