How long is too long for my baby not to move for?

Hi, my baby hasn't really moved since around 5/6 this morning. I am 29+4 and was wondering how long is too long without a proper movement?

Any ways I could force her to move for my own peace of mind?

Try ice on your belly, or drinking an ice cold drink. Eating chocolate also works (gives the baby a sugar rush)

If you're concerned though, ring the MW unit and they'll probably invite you in to be checked over

Have something sugary and cold (cold can of coke always did it for me!) and lay down on your left side. If you don't feel any movement then, call your MW, MAU or triage. Unusual movements should ALWAYS be checked out.

I would go straight in, don't mess around. If there is a problem, time is of the essence here. Even if she moves a bit after a cold drink, she could still be in trouble.

Go now.

I had that once and baby started moving again after sugary drink. However, if in any doubt at all go to the hospital and insist on a check/scan. All the best!

If the baby hasn't moved in 12 hours, I'd ask to be monitored.

Midwives would always rather you go in and feel daft when the baby starts kicking like mad, than have you worry yourself all night.

Mine seems to be quite sporadic still and I'm about a day behind you. It can be really active for a few days and then have a couple of quiet days. The other day I got really worried as I'd not felt much movement all day, even after a pint of ice water and a meringue! The next morning it started moving and has been really active ever since. I think the quiet day was because I was walking a lot which can rock them to sleep.

The midwife said to me that I shouldn't compare movement to other people's or what I'd read online but what was usual for my own baby, but that if I had any concerns that I should go in to be monitored without feeling uncomfortable.

How long is too long?
When you are worried about it.

You're obviously worried so give you maternity unit a call. No point worrying at home when it can easily be checked out. Smile

Best way you can get her to move is to call the Maternity Unit :) . I had this a few weeks ago reduced movements. Rang up they said to come in. As soon as the MW started attaching the monitor there was movement. I felt a bit sill but MW was lovely and said I did exactly the right thing. Not to hesitate if I was worried again.
