Hi all, was just trading another thread and people were taking about appointments etc. I saw the midwife at 7 Weeks...she basically took our forms and some blood. No urine tests or weight, blood pressure etc. she then said they wouldn't see us again until 24 Weeks...is this normal? I'd thought it would be more often etc.

that strange the length of time - the not weighing not that depends on mw
depends to whether u 1st time mum or not to when mw sees u - should be in the front of ur notes

I'm a first timer..first ever pregnancy! Is there anything that should be bring checked? I honestly thought I'd be seen more quickly!

Is this your second baby? In some areas they do miss out the 16 weeks appointment.

I had one at 8 weeks MW, 12 week (scan) 16 week MW, 20 week (scan) 24 week MW, was supposed to have 28 but was away so had that at 30 weeks and my next one is next week at 34 weeks

I'm a first timer too an I had my first appointment at 9 weeks and Iv just seen her again today 16+6 weeks then I see her again at about 22 weeks. I'd certainly question that length of time as it seems rather a long gap Inbetween. I had my weight checked again today, blood pressure and she listened to baby's heart beat too Grin

I saw a midwife more often than that for my first pregnancy, and have also seen one more often this time around... Are you supposed to do self-booking? First time I was given a list of appointment dates e.g. 16 wks, 20 wks etc and I had to ring up and book myself. Seems odd that the midwife won't see you til 24 weeks, but are your scan dates separate then?

AlisonL1981 · 24/01/2013 16:41

My midwife gave me a planner. Midwife appointments between 8-10 weeks, 15-16 weeks, 25 weeks, 28weeks, 31, 34, 36, 38, 40 and 41 weeks.
Hospital 10-14 weeks, 18-21 weeks for dating and anomaly scans.

bluer · 24/01/2013 16:43

This is strange! She def said 24 Weeks because she said we'd have had both scans by then. I have scan appointment for next week...this is our first pregnancy. I'm in Scotland.

Scans take place at the nearest hospital...the midwife won't be there. I saw the midwife at my gp surgery where they come one day a week.

Seems a long time. I'm a 3rd timer, and the only appointment that I don't have (which I had 1st time) is 30wks.

So what i do have is:
booking in, 12wk scan, 15wks midwife, 20wk scan, 22wk midwife, then, midwife at 28(bloods) 32, 34, 36, 40, (then 41 and 42 if not here by then).

AlisonL1981 · 24/01/2013 16:48

Did she take blood from you at the first appointment? The second appointment was to check blood test results.

bluer · 24/01/2013 16:53

She took the bloods and said they'd be in touch if there was any problem ..otherwise to assume the bloods were normal. Bugger i'm going to haveto phone them and be a troublemaker aren't I?

Maybe that's what the procedure is then? The midwife just went through the blood results at the second appointment. Booked the anomaly scan and talked about Down syndrome checks and flu vaccinations.

bluer · 24/01/2013 17:07

Ah well i've had the flu jab and we discussed the tests already so maybe its fine! Thanks for the help! Ill maybe check with the girls at work although we live in a different local authority!

Where abouts in Scotland are you? I'm moving up there in 6 weeks when I'll be 31 weeks! Need to then register with new gp, midwife and hospital!

bluer · 24/01/2013 17:16

i'm in Perthshire but i'm originally from the west coast. Where you moving to? We get the choice of Dundee or Stirling for the delivery!

Moving to the west coast! North Ayrshire. My boyfriend lives there. I moved up there a couple of years ago but came back south with my job. Hopefully the transition will be ok!

bluer · 24/01/2013 17:27

I know largs well and used to go to ayr often too! Beautiful to live there...I really miss the river etc but you've got to work where you can!
