Baby vests?

Hi

I just want to know does anyone still use these? I keep hearing different things. Some say yes, some no and they are actually not that easy to find so makes me wonder.

This is my first and I don't really know what a baby wears to be honest but keep reading this on the "what you need" lists!

Cheers :)

Not easy to find? They are everywhere! Vests, poppered vests, sometimes called body suits. My baby wears one every day. Short sleeves under sleepsuits etc, long sleeved under dungarees. Wardrobe essential!

Indith · 23/01/2013 11:19

You mean these don't you?

toinfintyandbeyond · 23/01/2013 11:20

Yep def An essential

learnermummy · 23/01/2013 11:22

Def essential, and lots of them - poo up the back can mean several changes of vest a day :-)

steppemum · 23/01/2013 11:23

I found them essential. I mean the little body suit ones, with short sleeves that popper between the legs.
I dressed my babies in one of these (great for holding nappy on to) and then sleepsuit. Or vest and then long sleeved top and trousers/dungarees etc.

baby benefits form the extra layer and when they start to be wriggly, the vest makes sure they don't come all untucked and cold

MrsBungleBear · 23/01/2013 11:23

I'd say essential. I have a mix of long and short sleeves. A long sleeve one is great under a t shirt or dress/dungarees.

They are certainly not hard to find! Any supermarket will have them!

DewDr0p · 23/01/2013 11:24

YY to vests. They are sold everywhere and as Indith says, are often called body suits. Great for keeping winter babies cosy and my summer babies lived in these alone in the early days when it was hot.

Ignore the advice about needing 6 each of these and babygros. I'd double that if you can afford it (but maybe leave the tags on half in case your baby is bigger/smaller than you expect!)

Startail · 23/01/2013 11:28

Essential unless you have daft hot blooded baby who grumps if wearing one.

The dolls in this house have worn the vests more often than the DDs, but they do have a father who wears sandals all year round.

Sorry I was not clear, I mean these type ...

Vests

I have loads of bodysuits. Just wondering if they are different

not sure that link worked, i mean these

Please don't think I didn't know the baby needs bodysuits, he has about 60! Grin haha

I couldn't get your link to work, but do you mean these?

I can't work out what you would use these for. Aren't they just the same as sleeveless body suits, just without the useful popper bit that keeps them straight with no draughts and helps the nappy stay on? Like you, I've got tons of bodysuits but no plan to buy standard vests. I'm guessing the fact that they are not that widely available means very few people use them (smile)

Dillydollydaydream · 23/01/2013 11:49

I don't see the point of the ones that don't poppers, when babies are small they'll rude up and be uncomfortable.

ladymia · 23/01/2013 11:51

Ok that's brilliant that's what I thought and was thinking that's why you don't really get them anywhere (the ones without poppers).

Will stick to the ones with poppers as I also thought these were not practical for a newborn!

Ok - so John Lewis do them here and there are reviewers saying they are good for in the nighttime. I stand corrected ish

Still don't think I will be buying any though as looks as though most people survive with just body suits!

Littlemissexpecting · 23/01/2013 12:10

Mothercare do them. I was planning on just sticking to body suits with poppers but MiL got me one of the starter packs and there was one in there. I noticed online they do them in multi packs too. I can't see the point unless you put them over the body suit as an extra layer in winter, under their clothes or sleep suit?

ladymia · 23/01/2013 12:20

I have a pack of 2 of them but I think I may return them. I don't really see the point of them

DewDr0p · 23/01/2013 12:39

Oh I see what you mean - no they look pointless! Stick with your bodysuits. Sorry for the confusion.

Indith · 23/01/2013 13:55

oh gosh I've never seen them without poppers here before! I think they get used in hot countries where baby may wear just happy and singlet but poppers all the way here!

MrsBungleBear · 23/01/2013 14:41

They look totally pointless and unnecessary.

Startail · 24/01/2013 15:04

Those look truly point less
