28+6 with mild cramps pains in tummy and back???!

Well that's it really. Should I be worried? I have had a very busy day - I am a theatre nurse so have been on my feet all day for a ten hour shift and it has been manic. Just sat down for my dinner and am getting these sort of mild period type cramps in my lower abdomen and lower back. Don't think it's BH as my bump doesn't feel hard at all, but I'm quite well covered (fat!) so not sure if I'd be able to tell? Any thoughts?

I delivered at 34 weeks and I'd describe my initial pains as period pains across lower tummy and back. It was like one long dull contraction.
My water had also gone although it was such a tiny trickle I thought baby was on bladder. Certainly no BH kind of pains.
I'm pleased I went to get checked out. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about but half an hours worth of monitoring won't harm just to reassure you.
My midwife didn't think I was in labour, labour was confined after ten mins on monitoring and examination showed I was 4cm.
Please don't worry, it may be nothing but you won't be sure til you are checked or have spoken to a midwife

Thanks We'reonourway, I read your response and immediately rang the midwife team. The lovely midwife there said to take two paracetamol and see how I am in an hour and if it's still as bad or worse to ring then back and they might want me to come in. Thanks for giving me a kick up the bum, I probably would have just sat about worrying and at least this way I have a plan. Think I've probably just overdone it though. Luckily no more work till Monday, yay! Hope it does calm down, really don't fancy getting DS up and going out in this weather!

I'd say I often got quite crampy after 30 weeks or so too, ds was back to back at delivery and a very good weight for his gestation so the cramps may not have had any direct link with the actual labour starting early iykwim??
I had absolutely no reason to think if go into early labour and it wAsnt until I had an internal and waters went more that I had "proper" contractions so the cramps are all I had to go off.
Hope it calms down for you. It may be the way baby is lying?
Here's hoping the paracetamol do the trick, do let me know how you are getting on if you can x

Bloody hell, sorry about errors. Still getting used to iPhone and auto correct!
Good luck!

Aargh! Bloody iPhone! Yes, the cramps have calmed down since I took the paracetamol so think I'm just going to have an early night and hope for the best. That must have been pretty scary going into labour at 34 weeks? Was everything ok in the end?

Yes and no. 2 years later and I've a gorgeous ds who is seemingly unaffected.
Birth was horrific, he got stuck and huge episiotomy for me. Forceps delivery and he suffered awful facial bruising. He struggles to breathe initially and prolonged jaundice due to gestation and the extent of bruising. We were in nicu for 2 weeks(we were discharged on Xmas eve 2010) and we worried about his health for a while.
He was a late walker(22 months) and we had physio to help him but touch wood he is perfect, speech is fab and his delayed walking hasn't affected him at all.
I've got issues with coccyx and sciatica due to birth by I live with it, ds is fine. That's all that matters!

Blimey. Sounds like you really went through it. Glad your DS is ok now. I also have a DS who was two in November. It is such a fantastic age, I am loving seeing him change and develop. Sorry to hear that you still suffer with the after effects of his birth - what a joy it is being a woman sometimes?! Had an elective CS with DS as he was breech so have never had any experience of labour at all. Am planning a VBAC for this one and am bricking it a bit! Anyway thanks for the advice earlier. Off to bed now, hoping it will settle more over night.

Agree with you about the age of ds's, every day is such a joy at the minute.
Hope you are well this morning. Good lck on the vbac.
Must admit I'd love to be able to have a "normal birth" so totally ubderstand why you are trying. We were in theatre when ds was delivered and although he was put into my chest(kind of thrown on actually) he was whisked straight to nicu.
I'm sure it will be wonderful, for me diamorphine really helped, I was advised to have an epidural as they eventually out me on drip.
Epidural was fab too, could still feel when to push but perhaps stopped ne getting into better position.
Good luck, ill be thinking of you
