I'm 5 weeks and 2 days pg, I had quite a bad car accident 2 days after my BFP, spent all day in A & E, that was two weeks ago, since then I've had 6 blood tests and two scans and booked in for another scan in two days.
I've not had any pain or bleeding since the accident and they're all the nurses are very cagey about why all these tests are necessary.
any ideas?

I'm sorry to hear about your accident, are YOU ok after it? (baby aside). As for the blood tests, are they all linked to the pregnancy or are you not sure? The only test I can think of at this stage is relating to whether or not you are RH Negative and may need an anti-d injecton but a) I don't think they are needed this early and b) that would have been sorted in the first few days anyway. Have they given ANY clues? Did the scan show the baby was in the right place i.e. not a possibiity of ectopic (which would have nothing to do with the car accident anyway).

Sorry I've been utterly useless but I honestly have no idea.

I'm sure they are just being cautious about stuff, can you call and ask your MW or whoever you see?

I don't really know why the blood tests are necessary other than to keep monitoring your hormone levels. The scans are obviously to check the health of the embryo - have you directly asked your HCPs as to why you're having these tests and scans? Surely they should tell you?

I've read that the embryo can withstand physical trauma to the moter's body: the cells that will become your baby are implanted into your uterus. As you've had no pain or bleeding (I'm guessing you had the accident about 1 week ago?) fingers crossed everything is fine!

Congratulations, and good luck.

Oh yes, forgot to say hope that you're okay.

Emsyboo · 15/01/2013 21:08

You need to ask them to tell you you are entitled to information about your treatment especially since by not telling you it is making you more worried.
I hope you are ok chances are baby is fine it's very early and they are well protected from bumps and if you've had no pains or bleeding that is a good sign.
It could be nothing if you lost blood in the accident they may be checking your blood levels and you are not anaemic. Nothing to do with pregnancy or could just be double checking everything is ok.
I hope you are ok try not to stress too much and get some answers big hugs x

I'm ok within myself thanks for asking, the accident was just over two weeks ago now
the blood tests are definitley related to me being pg as they're checking to see if my hormones are rising properly, I just can't fathom out why they're doing all these tests, surely if I've not bled it's still in there??
Have another scan today (my third scan and I'm not even six weeks yet!!!) will try and ask today but I'm not very good at being forceful when I'm by myself and DH can't keep taking time off work.
The Drs/Nurses keep saying things like 'oh we're just monitering your progress' but they don't do all these tests for a complication free pg do they?
Thanks for your support Ladies
