Hi can anyone help. We are moving house in a couple of weeks which means I will have to change hospitals. I will be 18 weeks and can't register with the GPs til I physically move there but can I call my midwife or hospital to change my maternity info and hopefully still get my 20 week scan?

I'm going to have to do this! I am 6+4 and live in Cyprus but am moving back to the UK sometime in the summer!

I don't have specific knowledge, but it would be worth a try to ask your midwife to get a referral letter sent to your new hospital for the scan, rather than your current hospital.

Hello,
You will most probably need to get registered with GP. Your GP will refer u for a scan and I'm sure they will treat it as urgent. Don't forget to make your medical file (sickness history, medical card, maternity notes etc) to take with u to yr next GP. This will not be transferred over on yr behalf so better be prepared. I know this as I had to change hospitals and GPs and every time I had to go back to the old GP and hospital to get my medical history for the new GP to update. Hope this helps. Good luck xx

Hiya, I moved half way across the country when I was 30 weeks! If you know which GP surgery you'll be registering at give them a call a explain the situation, they'll tell you what you need to do when you move in. For mine all I had to do was register, fill out a couple forms bring in a bit of ID and right there they booked me in with the midwife for a booking in appointment. At the booking in appointment they even sorted my antenatal class too.

It was so easy and stress free so don't worry , I'm sure it'll be very simular for you.

No reason at all why your current gp can't refer you for a scan at the new hospital. You're allowed to choose any hospital you want now, even if its the other side of the country. I'd ask your current gp/midwife to book you a 29 weeks scan there.
Or it may be worth asking to speak to the midwife at the new gp practice for advice on logistics - how long would it take for them to book you in for a scan?
Agree with asking for a medical history printout from your current gp, good idea.

Good luck with the move, much better now than when baby arrives!

Oops, 20 week scan!

I moved a little later than this I had alredy had both scans in old area. I was given another scan at my new hospital when I moved I wasn't told any reasons for the scan so I just presumed it was due to moving.

It depends on the area how things are done, here gp's have absoloutley nothing to do with pregnancy (in my experience) they just have the contact details for the community midwives. I do live 15minutes (with traffic) away from the hospital though so this could be the reason.
You could find the contact details for your maternity unit/hospital and contact them directly.
