I realise that their sale is still on but we are not quite ready to buy stuff yet but don't want to risk missing bargains, so how often do they (and other similar) have sales ? I was thinking around Easter to really start buying.

I personally took advantage of the sales. I started buying at 8 weeks if i'm completely honest. Just little cream bits here and there, and nappies in the sales, also took advantage of cotbed sales and bits. I know people will say "tempting fate", but i felt positive no point getting worried and now at 31 weeks it was the best thing we ever did. We're so well prepared.

With us tho, we was in Seasonal Work, so knew when our baby was due and around October to March we go through a skint phase until we go back to work for another season, so we got it in the sale whilst we have the money.

There's always a sale of some description in mothercare. Don't rush.

Agree with Bunty. There's often some kind of sale at Mothercare, like a third off bathing things one time or feeding accessories, money off cots or bedding, buy one get one half price on sleepsuits & nightwear etc. They often have bigger sales or good deals (get x amount off when you spend over £y) on around holidays, eg Christmas, Easter, bank holidays. Also sign up to them if you haven't - they'll send you email updates of different offers & occasional competitions & if you enter your due date you'll get more targeted special vouchers that aren't for the general public. Supermarkets and Boots fairly regularly have baby events where certain things may be on special offer. Again, most of them have an email sign up so you can often get advance warning. What would be useful now is for you to maybe think about what you need or really want, work out how much you can spend & write a specific list (perhaps w average price/lowest price available, so you know whether something really is a good deal or not). Also, bear in mind, some companies will only validate guarantees etc from certain listed shops. Eg I think Maclaren did this so although you could perhaps get a pushchair of theirs cheaper from say Amazon, if you want the guarantee, it's not worth the extra saving (which wouldn't be as great a saving as getting 2nd hand from eBay/NCT sales etc, maybe even free from Freecycle).

Also just remember people want to buy you stuff!

I enjoy buying new things for the new babies but I've finally learnt to only buy the things that are difficult to source if I happen upon it or I absolutely insist on that particular brand/ model and have a specific list of what I still want/need to tell people who ask for suggestions. You'll be surprised how generous people are.
