Don't know if anyone has been through this or if any midwifes can help. The night before last I had a lot of pressure and twinges which turned into what I think where contractions on and off all night. The following day I still had pressure and little stabbing twinges. I rang my midwife who mis hearing how many weeks I was told me I could be in early labour, if they got to every 5 mins to ring the hospital and make sure my bag was packed. When I said I was 27 weeks not 37 she said oh thats different, rest and if they get to every 10 mins ring the hospital and tell them I am only 27 weeks Shock.

Last night they died off and this morning I had a lot of jelly like discharge. Should I ring the midwife/hospital of wait and see what happens. I am worried that if things are starting early the baby won't survive.

Can anyone help please?

I would also just turn up there, i feel it's better to be safe than sorry, there are things they can do to help stop labour & the steroids for the babies lungs, how do you feel? do you feel like something is happening do you feel like this is labour?

SparklyGothKat · 20/04/2006 17:28

I had this at 31 weeks with DD1, I was in labour and had her after a 2 hour labour. Once the contractions starts, a prem. labour can be very fast. I just went to the hospital.

i recently had what might be a show, i went straight in to the labour ward and they told me if it didn't have blood in it, it wasn't a show etc. thats bull btw. anyway i left feeling patronised and still concerned so i went back the very next day with the "show" to show them Grin they still said it wasn't a show because of the blood thing but did send it off for investigation etc and did check my cervix etc. (all different circumstances to you because i have a cervical stitch in place)
anyway the point is i left feeling much better like i had done everything i could and they did not mind at all that i was back the next day.

BF had this a month or so back, she was 26 weeks iirc. She went up to the hospital and they gave her steroid injections for the baby. She stayed in for a week, but I think that was more because the stress was giving her heart palpatations and they were monitoring that.

Anyway, she's now 39 weeks, she's been getting labour pains on and off but he's stayed in there. I think she'd rather he came out now though as she's on crutches because of spd! I'm betting he'll come out late......Grin

Go and see them, get the injections. At least then you know you are prepared as you can be for an early labour.

SparklyGothKat · 20/04/2006 17:37

yes, get the injections, have had many myself, 3 lots with DS, 1 lot with DD2 and 1 lots with DD2. They used to give the injections everytime i went in with DS but with the girls they said that 1 lot is enough for the baby.

Please go in. A friend lost her baby after being told this, despite having had a previous premmie at 30 weeks.

PLEASE! For the sake of your baby.

HappyMumof2 · 20/04/2006 18:05

I agree. Please, please go. They are talking crap.
You must go now.

Thanks for your advice everyone. Everything has stopped/calmed down now and baby is kicking well. I have stayed off work today so I can rest and if things change I am only 10 mins from hospital instead of an hour.

Thanks

Back again!

Ended up going into hospital late morning as got achy again. Turns out I have a water infection and have antibiotics to take, which was triggering the contractions, etc.. But I haven't dilated and my waters haven't gone. Thank god! It was a relief.

I'm glad you went. Always go with your instincts, as you know your body better than anyone else.

slinkstah · 22/04/2006 01:34

excellent! im really pleased you went in. water infections are notorious for causing preterm labour so am happy you caught it in time and have antibiotics etc.
instincts are always right:)
