Braxton hicks? Advice please!

Would really appreciate some quick advice. I'm 34 weeks pg with DD2. About an hour ago I started getting what I think is probably bracton hicks. I've been getting them for a few weeks on and off, never particularly badly though.

Tonight, they are very painful. They're not going away and they don't start at the top of my uterus and work down, they are all low down tightenings and I'm getting awful back pain, too.

DD1 was 11 days late so I was expecting similar from this one. I don't want to call the hospital and make a fuss for no reason, does this sound like braxton hicks anyone else has had?

Thanks!

Oh and I want to try to track them to check whether there is a pattern - is there a good iPhone app anyone can recommend? I'm probably totally overreacting and will feel very Blush tomorrow!

Lots of apps that help track contractions or tightenings.

I feel your pain. I had bad BH.

Get some rest if you can either way.

Don't be embarrassed. Far better to get checked over, even though it is a faff at this time of night. Phone delivery suite now! Prem babies can come very quickly so please don't mess about timing contractions, just speak to a midwife.

Hope baby hangs on in there for a while. Good luck.

Yes I'm just not v good with the iPhone but have found one. It just seems so silly to even think that I could be going into labour. I can be a bit over dramatic, so not really trusting my judgement.

Bearandcub, does it sound like your BH?

Sorry, just seen this. How are you this morning?

Yes my BH were v strong.

Bearandcub · 12/01/2013 09:12

Sorry posted too soon. What I meant to say was that although my BH were painful I got them checked out every time they lasted over 90 minutes.

They knew us all at the hospital, I was always afraid I was being a nuisance but they never made me feel that way.

Thanks that makes me feel better. I did call triage but they said that it sounded mild and to see if they got worse. I'm getting lots of twinges this morning and my lower abdomen is really quite painful so i had a quick feel of my cervix and it felt very soft but still long so I'm not too worried about going into labour immediately.

I might book a GP appt on Monday to check it's not a urinary infection or anything but I can't drag DH and DD all the way to the hospital every time I'm a bit worried (can only get there by car, it's about 30mins away).

Thanks for your comments last night.

What did it look like on your contractions app? Was there any pattern to it?

Keep hydrated as I found that helped as did sitting as upright as possible or on a gym ball and a hot water bottle helped me too.

Will talk to DP when he finishes work and ask him whathe remembers helped soothe it.
