I've just logged on to post this and eerily seen the other thread on falling downstairs from
BionicEmu: Bionic, I really hope you and baby are ok.

I'm 36 weeks with DC1 and just slipped down the last three stairs at home (wooden floors, wearing tights = am complete idiot), landing with quite a bang on my bottom. My bump didn't touch anything as far as I am aware.

I have felt the baby move several times in the hour since and just have a bruised hip and elbow but is there anything I should be concerned about? I am thinking that unless I get signs of labour or vaginal bleeding I - and of course my baby - are ok?

I think he is well-protected but am more concerned that it could send me into early labour. I know he is almost full term but would rather hang on if possible!

I am seeing the midwife tomorrow for a routine appointment so will mention then of course but if anyone could reassure this anxious newbie I'd be very grateful - thank you : )

It's good that you can still feel the baby move. If you have seen the other thread then you can see that there are things that can go wrong; if you are feeling anxious why don't you call the emergency number that's at the front of your notes, either for the community midwives or for the hospital, so that they can give you some informed advice? There is probably nothing wrong but you lose nothing by getting advice, and put your mmind at rest. Us on Mumsnet can do little else but to recommend options and I personally would call the experts!

Good luck and all the best for the rest of your pregnancy!

I think as long as you didn't bang your bump you'll be fine. I have had a few slips through being so off balance, if the baby doesn't move so much then call your midwife. I'm sure it'll be fine but it might be worth a call just to be on the safe side xx

Are you rhesus neg? if so you should probably call hospital just in case (I am and I fell down the stairs and landed in a similar way..) as they may want to check you over.

looneytune · 09/01/2013 16:32

Was just about to say that if you're RHNeg then definitely phone to let them know. But even if not, I know at my local hospital you can phone the labour ward for advice at any time. Sure is ok but best to get advice imo

Thank you so much, all : )

I am RH Neg, yes - good point, I will call them. I was going to wait till any actual bleeding which now seems less wise - thank you.

No don't wait as I've had 8 TINY bleeds (RHNeg) and have to phone every time and believe it or not, although tiny I found out tonight there HAS been a mix of blood between me and baby which is why I got extra phone call to go in for another Anti D. My bleeds were so tiny that someone could miss them and so I'd honestly just call as not everyone gets the evidence of a bleed.

Let us know what they say on the phone and make sure you tell them you're RH Neg! :)

How you doing OP? x

toomuchribbon · 11/01/2013 14:05

Looney, thanks so much for your advice and for checking in.

I called the MFAU yesterday in the early hours and as I had my 36 week appointment yesterday anyway they advised me to come in a bit earlier.
His heartbeat was fine and they did a CTG trace, all ok. As I thought he had moved so that his back was on my right instead of my left, it's usual position, but his head is still down so that's ok. I think they move around quite a bit anyway?

I thought they would scan to check placenta etc but perhaps because I had no bleeding there was no need. As I am RH negative they did take bloods for a Kleihauer test though, which looks for foetal blood cells in maternal blood i.e. to see if there has been even a tiny bleed/mix as you said and which would necessitate another anti-D injection for me. I'm currently awaiting the results but hopefully all fine, just lots of undignified black bruises for me which is no prob - I shall update!

Thank you so much for all your kindness and advice Thanks xxx

I'm so pleased to hear it, I've just done a new thread highlighting the importance of being seen if RH Neg :) Pleased everything looks ok and hopefully you don't need to go back in for anti-d but if you do, you know it's best for baby :) Fingers crossed x
