It means that its starting to engage. During engagement they will describe it in terms of how much. For instance the other day my little one was described as two thirds engaged. For first born they tend to engage earlyish on. For subsequent births I'm informed they engage just before birth. Personally my dd2 was fully engaged/out fully engaged/out, fully engaged/out etc etc for about the last 4 weeks so I don't get that worried about the degree of engagement.

you just cant predict something like that - your lo will decide when it is time regardless of how engaged they are at the moment. In a lot of subsequent pregnancies the head doesnt engage until labour has started so it isnt really an indicator of when labour will begin - sorry!!

My second baby has been 4/5 engaged for 4 weeks now and I still only 37 weeks. It doesn't mean anything about how soon or late labour will start. baby will come when ready.

Fraid I have to agree with the others. The degree of engagement didn't work with my second either. She did arrive early but that was more to do with raging blood pressure and an abrupted placenta that dd2's degree of engagement. Grin

Well this baby has been on the 'brim' since I was 32 weeks - and I'm now nearly 35 and it's still there. Midwife was a bit surprised that it was so low so early (this is baby no 2) but didn't suggest that it meant anything..so I'm with the others.....your baby will come out when it's good and ready regardless of head position / engagement now.

Guess the only difference with the head being so low so early is the comfort level for you....so needing like you need to pee ALL the time because of the pressure....

Hi HA. Talk about visits to the loo during the night! Am seriously considering restricting the amount of water I drink so I can get some sleep! how you doing?

Not even my first baby engaged before labour. But think it was because he had a big head.
