I'm killed with nausea. Killed with it! I've tried everything from eating crackers to ginger, to sipping water. Nothing makes any difference. Just wondering if any of you wise ladies has any tips for a newbie? Or do I just live with it? I'm 8.5 weeks... So, another 3.5 weeks at least. Help.

Sorry, I meant another 3.5 weeks of nausea, at least, not of my pregnancy obviously. Baby brain...

Coca-Cola has always gotten rid of nausea for me - especially if it's a bit flat. Apparently it's not that uncommon - when I was in hospital with a kidney infection a few years back I couldn't take anti-nausea drugs as they made me sick Hmm and one of the nurses bought me cola. Worked a charm. Must be the real thing though - and full fat!

Great, thanks. I'm sending my dh to the shop. I'll try anything!

Ginger and mint were always crap for me. Keep a fresh lemon nearby to suck or smell, it's pretty instant relief. Lucozade was good and rocket ice lollies. Eat regularly as hard as it is because if blood sugar levels drop, nausea gets awful. If you go to bed late, try to go earlier, mine was made worse by tiredness. I've just come out of the dreadful nausea pit at 12 weeks pg so I really feel for you, hope it goes ASAP xxxx

I had to eat lying down Blush
so I had snack packets of ginger biscuits by the bed & ate them first thing, or in the middle of the night, drank milk or water & then lay down for half an hour so I knew some of it was being absorbed

Flat dr pepper is helping me ish :)
Also apples... And the chocolate and vanilla cheesecake I have just demolished didn't go down to bad either!

Worst thing I tried was chocolate milkshake thought I was going to actually die I felt so horrendous!

9+ something not to sure so feeling your pain!

Get thee (or send thy DH) to Boots and get travel sickness bands!! Wear one on each wrist at ALL times... It really worked for me, at least to the extent that I could function (still felt a bit rough) as opposed to being bed-ridden with constant nausea.
I (like you?) was never actually sick, just felt nauseous ALL the time.

My mum suggested the travel bands and when I bought them I was surprised to see that they actually said on the pack that they were also for morning sickness.

Maybe it was a psychosomatic effect but honestly they helped a lot.

Would suggest crackers but you're obviously trying that! I did nibble on crackers almost constantly and it might have helped a bit - didn't dare stop to see if I was right!

Being tired makes it worse apparently so try to sleep and rest as much as you can.

Sorry your'e feeling this way but CONGRATS on the pregnancy and I am SURE you will feel better soon. I was so miserable in week 11 that I broke down in tears on the street as I just couldn't face feeling that bad any longer. About 5 or 6 days later the nausea vanished almost overnight, as suddenly as it had started. 2nd trimester was GREAT!!!!! Heading into the 3rd trimester now and getting tired again but not nauesous thank God. It is so miserable, you poor thing.
xx

Doctors and cyclizine or Stemetil Grin

Seriously, though, it depends how bad it is. When I was just nauseous I found eating a tiny bit little and often helped, and quite plain-ish food - lots of toast, Weetabix, ready salted crisps etc.

But if it is nausea that is really affecting how much you can eat or drink then it is worth having a chat with your GP, as there are anti-sickness meds out there that a lot of women take nowadays. I took Stemetil for my whole pregnancy.

Bananas and zinc cracked it for me.

emeraldgirl1 · 05/01/2013 20:35

Oh, and what Gumby said - eating first thing when you wake up - literally before even getting out of bed - is meant to help. I don't know if it worked for me but I certainly didn't hurt. I just kept a box of crackers by the bed so I could have a couple as soon as I woke up.

Excellent, just what I was looking for... Things to try that I hadn't thought of. Lots of great ideas here, thank you all so much.

It's very debilitating at times. I'm really looking forward to getting to the 12 week mark when, hopefully (!!), it'll pass.

emeraldgirl1, no, I haven't gotten sick either. Just the constant nauseous feeling. Yuck.

It's horrible. No two ways about it. But it DOES pass, honestly xx

LittleNutTree · 05/01/2013 20:43

emeraldgirl1 beat me to it! Travel sickness bands were my saviour, I wore them all the time and they were brilliant. Remember to try and eat even if you don't feel like it, an empty stomach just makes the nausea worse. I was 12wks this week and I finally feel human again! (Although with DD1 and DD2 it lasted until about 15wks)

Bambi86 · 06/01/2013 12:23

As mentioned by other, travel sickness bands work wonders.

Also, try super sour Haribo or similar sour sweets. They help with the sicky feeling and help shift that horrible taste in your mouth.

MistyKnight · 06/01/2013 15:26

Bananas and nuts do the trick for me, and I have just discovered some quite strong ginger sweets they sell in Holland and Barratt called Gin-Gins - they are fantastic when nausea comes on out and about or in the car. I am 10+3 and really hoping the nausea will fade soon as it's no fun!

Rache1S · 06/01/2013 15:34

I am 15+5 and my nausea is just getting better now.
I found that any ice cold drink alleviated symptoms, the more ice the better. Or it sounds a bit obvious but actually throwing up made me feel instantly better if the situation allowed it. Good luck!
