May seem like a strange question- but I really fancy a Strawberry Milkshake from MaccieDs later with a burger as a treat- I have a feeling I can't have Mcflurries-but does anyone know whether you can have a milkshake- just a small one???

Thought there were risks over listeria or something to do with unpasturised milk???

I think McFlurries are a no-no but milkshakes are fine. I ate a semi runny egg yesterday and freaked my self out a bit!!

I was told during first pregnancy anything made of soft serve icecream is not allowed. So no milkshake or mcflurry (THEY'RE THE SAME THING BTW!!!!) or mr whippy....

However I've been told this time that mcdonalds pasturise their icecream so it's okay. And I had one just cos i could, but I do now feel guilty that I didn't check.

It's the pausturising thing, so if they do, it's okay.

Apparently the machines the soft stuff sits in are breeding grounds for bacteria

I'd take the listeria risk

just think of what you could sue MacD's for Wink

I resisted in the end just had cheesburger, chicken nuggets and chips with lots of tomto sauce- not healthy I know and normally I don't touch MacDs but had a really bad bout of sickness and diarrhoea on Friday and not eaten much over the weekend!!! Tut Tut!

As a past McD's worker I don't think you should eat any McD's ice-cream or milkshake whilst pg. Basically they pour the mix into a machine which cools it down to a certain temp (lower for the ice-cream than the milkshake), but they don't keep the mixture at this temperature as the machines are turned off overnight. That's why you can't usually have one first thing in the morning, as it takes a while for it to all freeze down again.

oh dear my craving has been for raw mushrooms and mini egg mc flurries (and I hate both ususally) so I am in trouble then

Esmummy · 19/04/2006 09:33

I wouldn't either. It is definitely to do with it not being kept at the correct temperature constantly, as someone else said this also goes for Mr Wippy ice creams. All of which i had a desperate craving for over the weekend when the weather got a tad nicer GRRRRRR

First pregnancy I went by the book. This one I've had eggs with runny yolks, MacD milkshakes, soft cheese, v. small glasses of wine

and I'm still standing!!!!!

jodie1984 · 19/04/2006 15:15

wheni i was preg last summer i had 2 mcflurrys everyday for 3 months. never heard of this listeria thing

Louba · 19/04/2006 15:22

To be honest, I think you'll find there is actually not a trace of real dairy product in McDonalds milkshakes! I think they're made mostly from non-milk fats (trans fats) which although are pure evil in terms of healthy diet, dont carry the risk of listeria etc... in fact I had a chocolate McD's milkshake the other day (31 weeks pg) and boy was it good!!Wink
