Worries about energy lasting in labour

I am 17 years old and have had CFS for 4 years. Despite using precautions, I became pregnant and am now 31 weeks. Since being pregnant, I've had 2 chest infections, a bulging disc in my back, shingles and now SPD which means that I have to use crutches constantly and a wheelchair for any distance. My ante-natal consultant believes that I can go for up to 12 hours in labour without needing an epidural, and will be able to manage on isotonic drinks. I didn't think isotonic drinks were good for you if you have CFS, but am I wrong in thinking this? Please can anyone help me with any useful info and also how long anyone's managed in labour without being too exhausted to give birth, as this is what I'm worried about. Many thanks.

I have no knowledge about this, but I think raising your concerns with you consultant and midwife would be a good idea. Also ask them to confirm that the drinks are medically safe for you.

Do you have anyone to take to your appointments with you to help you get your point across? I often take DH as he is a bit more forthright than me and won't be brow beaten into anything.

If you feel that an elective caesarian would be better for you, raise this with your reasons. It sounds like you have a good medical case for physical reasons, and also because you are very worried about the alternative.

Hi jazz. I also have cfs... Pregnancy is a struggle isn't it! I don't really know about labour as havent done it yet, but I know it's a worry. I hope something in body might just take over and push you through! Just wanted you to know you're not alone!
