Do they deliver breech c section babies early?

Hi,

I'm 33 weeks now and as above really was just wondering Do they deliver breech c section babies early? X x

My sisters was delivered at 38 weeks but that was due to her having low amniotic fluid - if it had been normal it would have been later.

Generally, 39 weeks, same as most c section babies.

They leave it fairly late in case the baby turns. Turning at 38/39 isn't unheard of.

38 weeks for me (was delighted to get it over with, once had come to terms with the fact that the little madam wasn't turning!)

I was booked in 5 days before due date but waters broke at 38 weeks so he arrived early

Hmmmm been breech since 23 weeks so not holding out any hopes for baby turning, but it would be great if she/he did!! x

Try the spinning babies website (sorry can't link on my phone) there is loads of info on helping babies turn. They may offer an ECV if it looks possible

Ideally yes, as with all ELCS. It's easier to do the surgery if you are not contracting, if you are not in labour there is less rush.

dd (breech forever, never bloody moved) was booked for csection 2 weeks before due date. Waters broke and went into labour 2 weeks 1 day before due date and she was delivered within the hour!

My DD was planned breach vaginal delivery (I was going to attempt it any way) but she turned at 38 weeks it was more painful than labour

DS was transverse, rather than breech and stayed that way until just before 40 weeks. Labour was long and painful, this was sudden excruciating pain but it was all over in 5 minutes and I felt much better afterwards!

Babies can turn in labour, they like being breech it gives them lots of space to play and when the contractions start they're usually encouraged to turn. Personally if I had a breech I would want to be in labour before they did a section to a. give my baby every chance to turn and b. because the development of the lungs is connected to the triggering of labour. When you actually get offered a section varies by doctor. My eldest was born at 31 weeks by crash section due to being a footling breech and I'd already been told "if she doesn't turn"! At 31 weeks, unless you're in labour, baby is not breech, just upright.

Both mine were breech cs- DD1 delivered at 39 weeks, DD2 at 37 and a half due to a date mix up (theirs, not mine).

I had my baby at 39+1 by elcs as turning failed and he was already engaged with no space to move according to consultant. They wait for 39 weeks to do elcs.

mine moved from transverse lie at 37+5 when they werent expecting it to.

DD delivered at 38wks - she was footling and they didnt want to risk me going into spontaneous labour.

Ds was footling. I refused ECV and sat to discuss section with consultant.
My 1st child was born spontaneous labour at 38+4 and my cycles are 23 days.
Even when presented with these facts, he insisted no section is performed before 39 weeks.

Arsehole!

Went into labour at 38+2. Had emergency with a 45 minute fumble to get spinal in due to fast progressing labour. All was ok but still think he was an arsehole.

On the plus side, ELcS means tiny sat (or it did in my case) which is faster recovery.

I was 38 +6 when I had my elcs for breech. I think they tend to do it about a week early, to leave it as long as possible but hopefully catch you before you go into labour.

shattered, I'm shocked! with mine they gave it two attempts before swapping to a GA (which we now know they should have done all along) I was in labour and they didn't want me to birth vaginally.

Yep, thought the anaesthetist was an A hole too!! I think I was pretty calm though, and those 45 mins of contracting in theatre hunched over were still a million million times better than one minute of back to back labour I had with DD.

38 weeks here, because there was some mixing of blood during ecv. Was told would normally be at 39.
