Hey. Just out of curiosity I was wondering whether the cheaper tests (I.e. Boots on brand) are just as good as more expensive brands?

I did two sainsburys own which were positive, still didn't believe them so did a clear blue digital which was also positive. So in my experience no but my lines were very clear on all of them. X

I think the clarity varies. I got a BFP on an Internet cheapy. It was very faint and fuzzy. First response early response came up quickly and was really clear. I would steer clear of the Boots tests with the + symbol, I had two false positives!

My ethos was to have a stash of Internet cheapies to pee freely on, then when I did get a BFP I used the FRER. I used a clearblue digital with conception indicator a few days later to be absolutely sure and check my dates were right. Essentially though, the clearblue are actually less sensitive than say the Internet cheapies or first response yet try charge more (you need 100mlU to get a positive on a clearblue but only 10 on an Internet cheapy!) so they are a bit of a rip off!

Im pretty sure they all work the same way. POAS-stick detects pregnancy hormone/ or not- stick indicates pregnant or not. Some people find it reassuring to spend more money or see the word 'Pregnant'. I think the words 'not pregnant' might feel a bit more blunt than a single line though if you are TTC. I used Tesco cheapies in last 2 pregnancies. The 2 lines was clear enough proof for me and I just used 1 test each time. Smile

I use cheapies, box of 3 for a £1 in semi-chem - worked fine and very accruate/reliable.

Clearblue etc is a huge ripoff!

TinkyPeet · 28/12/2012 12:55

Co op own brand or boots own works for me, the rediculously expensive first response and cb digital didn't show anything untill 2 weeks after bfp on cheaper (almost 3 weeks late) and in fact the frer rated at negative, had my first scan yesterday so I'm definitely preggo lol

TinkyPeet · 28/12/2012 12:56

Stayed at negative **

HazleNutt · 28/12/2012 18:11

opposite experience here - I used supposedly very sensitive internet cheapies and even a week after I had got BFP on Clearblue Digital, they were still negative!

Have used both boots and supermarket own brands, dirt cheap internet (20 for £5) ones and the more expensive brand tests and in my experience they all pretty much worked the same. I have been PG 4 times and each time used cheapies and then more expensive and tested from 5 days before AF due. All showed faint lines at first (even the early test ones) and got stronger closer to AF due date and first thing in morning.

Thanks for the advice girls. Smile Who would have thought there was so much science behind POAS!
