It is better to wait for longer after a section as the uterine scar ought to be fully healed, and that's something that cannot be checked by observation, so experience-based rule of thumb is the only guideline that can be applied. The big risk is of uterine rupture if healing is not complete.

But women do become (accidentally?) PG under a year from a section and go on to have healthy pregnancies. It's your decision on how you evaluate the risks if you choose to have unprotected sex earlier than whatever the HCPs are recommending for you.

You might like to consider barrier methods, perhaps in conjunction with natural family planning (if your periods have returned and are reasonably regular).

I read that you're body needs 6 months to recover from pregnancy, it could be 9 months. If your body is fully recovered then you can be at your healthiest for the next pregnancy. I had 2 close together - ds2 was/is smaller and catches more coughs/colds than ds1. It's probably nothing to do with it but I always feel that ds1 is fitter and stronger because I was when I was pregnant with him.

Have you actually checked out birth control? I cant have anything with oestrogen either due to liver and thyroid conditions and i have had the pop pill, the implant and am getting a mirena fitted in a couple weeks as dd2 is now 6 wks. Can also get the depot jag. Why cant you use any of those? The only one with oestrogen is the mirena but the amount is negligible and as it goes straight to your ovaries and not into the bloodstream it is suitable for those who are intolerant to oestrogen.

With regards to having a baby post-section, I had a natural birth with all 3 of mine so I cant comment completely, however if medical advise is to wait a year then that is what you should do. Of course it is up to you whether you think the need for another baby outweighs the risks but you have two girls to think about. What if something went wrong?

My GP & consultant both said 6 months after section.

I have 2 boys 13 months apart - both sections.

It took over 2 years to get pregnant the first time so didn't want to muck about with nature too much as we definitely wanted a 2nd child. Thought that it would maybe take 2 years again.......and then found I was pregnant.

I needed a section the 2nd time as the same set of circumstances that necessitated the first emergency section were present again - Large baby lying back to back and I had sacroiliac hip dysfunction which made a lot of labour positions impossible. They also were not sure whether the scar would hold. After the 2nd section, the surge said that it wouldn't have and that we'd made the right decision.

So, with another close pregnancy, you may find yourself having a 2nd section. That said, for us it worked out okay - had 36 hour labour, borderline blood transfusion and complete exhaustion with first birth, with the 2nd we knew when the baby would be born so we could plan it (important when you have 13 month old to cater for) and I was only in 2 days, then back home with them both.

So you've got two girls, one of whom is only 3 months old?

Sorry, but I think you should focus on them for a bit before thinking about having more babies.
