Worried about not getting to hospital on time??!!

I am only 11+5wks so really should not be worrying about labour yet but I can't help it, it's not the labour I am worried about, it's not making it to hospital on time!
With DS1 I was already 5cm dilated when I got to hospital and only went in because DH made me! So with DS2 I was told to go in sooner rather than later but although my contractions were becoming unbearable and closer together I was convinced I shouldn't go in as they were not lasting a minute, only lasting about 30 seconds, so again had to be forced by DH to go in and I was 9cm dilated!!!!! After they examined me they rushed me straight to the delivery room, started pushing straight away and he was here 45 mins later!
So now I am really worried that I will not go in on time/baby will be born at home or in car on way in!
Any advice or reassurance? Anyone experience similar?

I too am worrying about not getting to the hospital on time! With DD I stayed at home for as long as I could bear without pain relief, midwife didn't even come out to examine me at all as she said 1st labours always take a long time to progress. When I finally felt like I couldn't cope with the pain I went to hospital and was already 9cm dilated!
I'm now 38+4 with DC2 and although I would ideally like to stay at home again for as long as I can, I'm worried that I won't make it to the hospital in time! Not helped by the fact that the hospital I went to last time has closed so I now have to do a 40 min car journey!
I completely understand why you are worrying. I'm just trying to be as chilled out about it as poss, there's no way to know how labour will progress or what will happen so going to try not worry about it as much as I can (easier said than done!!) Wink

Why not have a planned home birth?

My entire labour with DD lasted 3 hours, thankfully I was already in hospital for obs as she was prem and my waters had gone earlier that day. Our hospital is an hour away if the traffics bad, I'll be going at the first sign of labour.

I have thought about a planned home birth but I am too scared of something going wrong, I like being in the hospital knowing that my baby and I are in the best place should anything go wrong. My first sons heart rate dropped from 150 to 50bpm, they had to get him out immediately, I dread to think what could have happened if I had been at home and had to wait for ambulance etc.
TwitchyTail yes I really should listen to DH more!! Grin
I always think it's not time to go in and I don't want to go in to be sent home again, but I will just have to hope that next time I will go in on time!! Hmm

I spoke to the consultant about this yesterday, my 1st was a 3 hour labour and 2nd was only 20 mins! We live 45 mins (on a clear run) from hospital which is in a busy seaside town which if a hot day could add 30 mins on and that's after dp has got home!

My last 2 were induced which i know can be faster labours and am hoping this one will be too as dont fancy giving birth at home with 2 kids on my own!
