Is it your first baby? Sure DW was showing quite a lot with DD (2nd born) when she was 7/8 weeks?

lilangel101 · 23/12/2012 14:02

Yeah this is my first baby

It's probably more bloat than baby! I'm on my second & was shocked to be wanting to wear maternity trousers at 6 weeks but now I'm 16 weeks & the initial bloat disappeared & the bump is now slowly creeping back! I think it's probably normal to feel concious of a bump that most other people wouldn't notice.

Thanks :) if your having twins does the bump tend to be bigger? and is chocolate during pregnancy bad? Because I'm hearing that caffeine is bad I tend to have milk chocolate

it's bloating, water retention, your digestive system slowing down and back you up a bit, not the baby showing. It is the size of what, a raisin or smaller just now :)

NHS webby says:

Yes, chocolate contains a surprising amount of caffeine.
You don't need to cut out caffeine completely but don't have more than 200mg a day. The approximate amounts of caffeine found in food and drinks are:

one mug of instant coffee: 100mg
one mug of filter coffee: 140mg
one mug of tea: 75mg
one can of cola: 40mg
one can of energy drink: 80mg
one 50g bar of plain (dark) chocolate: around 50mg
one 50g bar of milk chocolate: around 25mg

Thanks so a snickers bar now and again is ok? I don't drink coffee or tea or fizzy drinks just a bar of chocolate now and again

perfectlyfine as long as there's no adverse famil y history meaning you need to be careful with peanuts Smile

Well, I did by DC3 (PG4) - sometimes the waistline just surrenders easily. It's like pre-menstrual bloat that does not subside, and probably isn't really noticeable as a bump to observers, though it can mean that some clothes/waistbands just aren't comfy.

NuzzleandScratch · 24/12/2012 02:14

There was a lady on here a while back who had a bump really early, turned out to be triplets! Grin
Probably just bloating though, as others have said!

I was really conscious of "showing" in first pregnancy but soon realised I was the only one who could tell (even DH couldn't see any difference). It was bloating though, not baby as it's tiny at that stage!

I still had colleagues come up to me at 6 months saying "I didn't know you were pg!" so people really aren't that observant!

This time I'm 11wks and already feel huge. Haven't fit in most trousers since 6/7 weeks.

blondietinsellyminx · 26/12/2012 23:26

I had a bump at 8 weeks - and there was only 1 in there! Smile

The uterus is hidden behind the pubic bone until 10-12 weeks - and even then it's only about the size of a large grapefruit. Any "bump" before then is just bloating due to water retention and gas.
