Am I more likely to get pre eclampsia this time if I had it on last pregnancy?

Or is it just one of those things? I started to de slop it at 34/5 weeks on my first pregnancy. Im now 34 weeks with ds2 and blood pressure has started to creep up, along with swelling and traces of protein in urine. Got to have bp checked tomorrow of all days do hope to god its stable enough for me to enjoy Christmas!

There's a school of thought which says not. If the father is the same as last time then you're less likely to get it again as it's something to do with an allergy to his sperm.

If, like me, the father is different you're in the same boat as last time in terms of the risk of developing it as you've no resistance the allergy producing element of this new sperm.

Oooh that's interesting rue ! It's the same father as last time so maybe I have a better chance of not getting it then! That is good news!

twitchy that's what I'm doing! Keeping everything crossed and hoping for the best.

Apparently, if you're going to get it, it does come on average 2 weeks later.

Just watch out for headaches, visual disturbances, abdominal pain & swelling. (Incidentally, I had severe PE & no symptoms at all).

Don't be shy about erring on the side of caution, as PE can develop very quickly.

Good luck!

Thanks cheese I'm on symptom watch already. Just want to make it past Christmas having enjoyed it rather than ending up in hospital like last time

You're more likely to get it than someone who didn't have it in their first pregnancy.

But you're less likely to have it than first time round.

Have you been prescribed baby aspirin? I had pre-eclampsia with my little boy - was picked up at routine 39 week check.

This time, when I had my appointment at 12 weeks they gave me baby aspirin and advised me that it had been proven to help delay the onset of pre-eclampsia and that it was safe to take after 12 weeks. They also noted that I was at higher risk of developing it because I'd had it the first time round (I'm also 40 so that may be another risk factor).

VivaLaBeaver sums it up perfectly. FWIW, I had DD1 as an emergency c. section at 29+5 due to pre-eclampsia, but DD2 was born at 39+1 by c. section due to a failed induction. My BP had gone up, and I was put on labetalol. I had been taking aspirin since 9 weeks. DD2 is 5 monthsXmas Grin

baubles thanks for sharing your story. It gives me hope that things might just go ok (had a 29 weeker myself & am currently 19.5 weeks). Sorry to hijack!
