Hi, to fill you in on my history; I have had two lovely boys, aged 5 and 10, then a two yr gap, then within the last two years: a MMC at 9 weeks, then another early MC, then my lovely girl who we knew had a tumour (sacracoccygeal Teratoma) and arrived prem (32wks), then died when she was 6 days old. One of the reasons she was prem was because I had severe pre-eclampsia. After my little girl I MCd again in oct, at 9 weeks, then I have just got another bfp this week.... I am 39.

Two weeks ago, after a blood test the doc told me I had a slightly underactive thyroid, and put me on 25 mg of levothyroxine, my levels were 5.9for TSH and 13.8 for T4. I have lots of symptoms. At this time my BP was also high (157 over 100), it has been high on and off since I had pre-eclampsia.

Having just got my BFP, I don't know whether to push for a consultant appt, or to up my meds. My docs are not the proactive type, and will probably need a push to do anything! They have referred me re recurrent MC, but we don't even have an appt yet, and if they wait to refer me via the ob-gyn route it may take weeks to get referred on, and I will have probably MC again by then!

The other things I take are high dose Folic acid, and I should take baby asprin from BFP, but haven't started yet as worried it might clash with the thyroid meds, so will start after I check with doc tomorrow, if they say it's ok. I also take a prenatal sup, and omega 3, (the pregnicare ones).

I guess what I'm looking for is some advice, are my levels high enough to suggest a higher dose? Should I push to see a Endocrinologist? If so should it be ASAP, or is it ok to wait? Could my high BP be linked at all to anything, and does high dose Folic acid (or baby asprin) impact on or have q link to the medication or this thyroid condition?

Well, if anyone has got this far, well done and thanks! I am, as you can imagine, going a bit mad at the thought that I need to DO something to stop myself MCing again.... Another baby will never replace our beautiful girl, but we would really love to add to our family....

It's very hard to cope, one day your fine the next your in pieces! Glad I have his grave to visit and decorate.

Have you for a scan tomorrow then? Try and stay positive, I hope its good news you deserve it! I'm not in the sfe stage of pregnancy until 23weeks due to 50/50 chance of getting placental infection and weak cervix, its very weird to think one day I might have a baby.. just seems so far away!

I've never heard of the name Merryn before, don't even know how to say it. Unusual name are the best! Such a sad story, I bet she was perfect Thanks. He was called Riley-Lee. Didn't know any rileys but once i named him riley to other girls called theres riley really annoying. He was born 6th April. You can never replace a baby, there so precious. X

Sophie, have they actually diagnosed you? There must be some cause to your overactive and then underactive thyroid - sounds like Graves disease and that's easy to determine with the antibody test.

SophieBirkBirk · 14/01/2013 20:12

Yes, they've taken 3 lots of bloods. First showed over active (taken August). Second showed it was a little overactive, doctor thoughy it was going back to normal (taken December). Third showed underactive (taken couple of weeks ago).

I have to wait until the 21st to see a specialist. Doctor said its the "pregnancies" doing it.. I don't really think it is.

HazleNutt · 14/01/2013 20:36

well they just determined that you were either over- or underactive, but not what caused it.

Well, I'm just back from scan and all ok so far! Strong heartbeat and right size for dates.

I have bloods again tomorrow, then a Consultant Ob appt on fri. They are going to scan every two weeks until 12 weeks, then every four weeks. I will see Endo. Consultant every four weeks. It's going to be a roller coaster, but hopefully we will get there. Thanks for your well wishes ladies! Thanks
