Did anyone think about their lady garden, did you trim or leave it? Just wondering about these small details as I'm on maternity leave now and due on 30th. Hospital bag packed and everything pretty much done so I've got some time on my hands.

Wanted to get waxed but salon wouldn't let me. Did a quick trim beforehand with a mirror. However it will be the last thing on your mind and as the midwife said to me when I complained of feeling exposed "I am not going to remember your bum in the morning".

I was concerned about this while pregnant and had attempted to shave before I went into hospital to be induced. 4 days down the line when I was actually in labour, things had obviously regrown a bit!! At that time though I honestly didn't care, it will be the last thing on your mind.

I did blush a bit when I finally checked out the lady garden once I could see it again, and saw what a bad job I'd made of it anyway!!

Moral of the story I guess is get someone else to do it,or at least check it if you're concerned about it.

I decided to clip short with beard trimmers (DH helped) so any stitches easier to do.
Didn't want to wax due to ingrowing hairs/more little open pores to be infected.
Veet might work but do a test in case your skin is too sensitive.

I couldn't reach to do it, and also I didn't care! I wasn't expecting to go into labour at 39 weeks I thought I'd have another couple of weeks to sort out my hair - head, armpits, legs and lady garden! It was winter so I hadn't been regularly shaving my legs either! Also once home and midwife came to check episiotomy stitches she wasn't really looking at the hair, more the scar - unless she went back to the office and said ''OMG' this client's hairy lady garden was unbelievable, I can't believe she's not trimmed it for me!!!''

BionicEmu · 19/12/2012 08:48

I'm doing the same this pregnancy as last time. Whilst it's true you won't care what you look like, I got DH to trim me very short. I think it makes things easier to take care of afterwards. This might be TMI, sorry, but there's a lot of blood and it's just easier to keep clean if you've had a trim. Plus, I figure if you have stitches then longer hair might get caught in them? (I half tore off a labia last time, somehow!)

On the other hand, I wouldn't wax/shave or do anything where you might get itchy regrowth, no point in adding even more discomfort!

Lostbobbles · 19/12/2012 08:54

With DC1 i had wax booked for legs/bikkini as had planned c-sec booked, little monkey came earlier so i was in the bath with contractions at 2am shaving with the help of a mirror lol, madness i know but each to their own.

Have also used veet during this pregnancy and not had any reaction but do a little patch test first if you decide to use.

RockabillyKitty · 19/12/2012 09:35

Aw thanks girls, I knew I could rely on MNers for this (and a laugh!) While I am thinking about vanity at the moment I know I won't care when I actually go into labour. But I'd also thought about the practicalities and wondered about itchy regrowth vs neatness for stitches/cleaning.

Think I might go for Veet option, have used it before so know my skin is ok with it and at least I'll be in control of timing it right(ish).

Ha ha reminds me of when I was in labour with ds1. I'd had an epidural and hadn't realised how close he was to being born. A midwife came in and looked at my nether regions and said "ooh lots of hair!" and I honestly thought she was commenting on my overgrown lady garden!!! I was so embarrassed! Till a few seconds later when she said to dh "do you want to see the head - it's right there?"

NAR4 · 19/12/2012 11:13

I had a wax at the beauty salon before having each of mine. I agree with Bionic that I feel it makes things easier to keep clean afterwards and also allows the midwife to clearly see what she is fixing afterwards.

I have never been refused at a beauty salon due to being pregnant and would just phone another one if I was. Also the re growth isn't itchy when waxed and it lasts about 4 weeks + which gives time for everything to heal.

The midwife won't care one way or the other though and neither will you when you are in labour.

BuntysFestiveCollocks · 19/12/2012 11:36

I waxed before dc1, and am spruced up ready to go for dc2. It made me feel so much cleaner last time. If she's overdue, I'll be back in again. I had a bad experience of fanjo burn with veet so personally steer well clear!

bakingaddict · 19/12/2012 12:32

I was planning to tend to my lady garden but was hastily induced at 38 weeks. Needless to say it was more of a rain-forest jungle than a well manicured lawn and I did feel a teeny bit embarassed when the midwife wielded the shears but the pain took the edge off any embarassment really

bakingaddict · 19/12/2012 12:34

Forgot to say that I was shaved only because of needing emergency CS
