People are kind of suspicious because i was admitted to hospital with hyperemisis early on and told them i had a bug. But to be blunt about it im employed through temporarily agency and my employer is an absolute nightmare. Shes already re advertised my job once back in oct and told me if there was nobody better she would keep me but hasnt bothered to let me know since (which is lovely when christmas is coming and ive only got a weeks notice) and they just mess everybody around. Ive only been here 6 months and they treat everyone like this so ive not said anything so far incase they just fire me. Trying to get as many hours in over xmas and new year before the inevitable happens. Im just wondering whats the latest that people have told their employers and what they were like about it?
Thanks x

Hi, I'm sure someone will be along with some advice re your employer - they sound like a nightmare - and your rights Smile

I told my employer when I was 19 weeks with DD and they were fine. I think as long as you tell them by 28 weeks that's fine. TBH though my memory is sketchy after 2 kids!! Grin

Good luck

You have to tell them before you are 25 weeks pg, and once you have told them you are protected from discrimination on the grounds of pg, although by the sounds of it, they are a nightmare anyway. Have the agency given you any support?

I'm not sure what the legal position is, but given my previous experience I would not tell an employer until safely through the 20 week scan.

I would think it very unreasonable for any employer to expect to be told before this point

Your job sounds stressful and you boss a pain, that must be horrid for you when you are PG as well.

Employees must tell their employer about the pregnancy at least 15 weeks before the beginning of the week the baby is due. Some useful info here:

Am currently 15 wks and showing a bit but as started job pregnant in October am hoping not to say anything until new year about 18wks. Mainly because wont fit in uniform anymore!
Do not trust management and as prob not entitled to anything other than mat leave making the most if it.

If its any consolation I just told employer and I'm 17 weeks.

Hi there I am on baby # 2 didn't tell work until after 20 week scan despite IMO looking blatantly pregnant. I wore lots of gypsy tops. No legal obligation to tell them until 15 weeks before the baby born i don't think?

MyFriendGoo · 18/12/2012 20:52

I told my line manager at 14 weeks and she advised (having had a baby there last year) to leave it til the last possible minute as our company are so dreadful at dealing with maternity and I was quite nervous about complications pre 20 week scan. Will tell the company when I go back after Christmas - be 21 weeks then, which is still fine.

Although pretty sure the rest of my team are wondering why I suddenly have an obsession with very large jumpers...

I'm impressed that you've managed to hide it so long :-) I'm really showing and I'm 17 weeks too! X

Megsie99 · 21/12/2012 15:12

The funny thing is that I am actually really big for 17 weeks. Ive been wearing loose tops and stuff so far. I feel so old fashioned hiding it from them haha! Thank you for all of the advice!!
